Show me your updos! Fine/thin hair.

MrsKruse, on December 3, 2016 at 3:12 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

I know for sure I'll be wearing my hair up for my wedding, as I have thin/fine hair that will definitely fall if I try to wear it down. Everything I see online looks so elaborate and impossible on my hair type. Ladies with thin/fine hair, show me what you did!

Try half up/half down. My friend has thinner hair and it looked great. You could try extensions too.

Half up half down might make it look like there's even less hair no?

I'm a little biased, I love an updo on a bride. A talented stylist will be able to make it look full even up.

I have thin hair and here's the updo I had done for a friends wedding recently...

Yup, half up half down is good for thin hair like me.

Look up Lilith Moon on YouTube. She has amazing hair tutorials you might find helpful! Here is what I will be doing, hopefully.

ETA: she has very thin hair

If you just want to use your natural hair, I'd recommend something with curls or loops in an updo. Braided updos can be tricky if your hair is too fine/thin bc the pictures invariably show thick braids and that's not usually attainable in that situation.

Christina NYC, are you putting any sort of accessories in your hair? I would love a before/after if you remember!

Personally, half up/half down is AWFUL for my thin hair, even when curled. It does indeed make it look like you have less hair. @Jobelle yours looks very nice, and you have way more hair than I do even if it is thin.

My wedding trial. We thought I'd want to add in some mesh to make it bigger, but it turned out great!

As a PP said, this took over 50 bobby pins.

Yeah the half up thing does not work at all for my hair.

Here's a PSA for your day to day styling -- for ladies with fine/thin hair with little to no body, try one of these products after shampooing, blow drying, and before styling: "Schwarzkopf Styliste Ultime Biotin Volume and Texture Magic Volume Powder (it has Claudia Schiffer's name and photo on the canister), or for a little less money, try "Rock Your Hair Bombshell Big Hair Powder (it comes in a small, hot pink plastic bottle and sells for about $5 at Walmart). Both add volume and body -- for real (although I prefer the Schwarzkopf product). Also, for brides with thinning hair that has left them with thin patches or too much scalp showing, try "Toppik" thinning hair fibers (it comes in all common hair shades), or "Marc Anthony Thickening Hair Fibers". Toppik is pricier, but it's the superior product.

Here's mine. My dress is pretty intricate, so I went simpler with a hairstyle.

I tried the half up, half down. I looked like a Duggar. (Love the Duggars, just wasn't my wedding look!)

Here's what I did - nothing elaborate. I chose to work with my hair instead of using extensions.

    1 & 2: Half updo for Ceremony

    3: Updo for Reception
