Show me your Marquise cut engagement ring!

Gonnabeaburch, on October 26, 2018 at 12:46 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
My FH asked that we go to the jewelry store together so I can show him what type of things I like in engagement and wedding bands. I never planned on having an engagement ring, didn't have one last time, so the thought never really crossed my mind. I started looking around a little out of curiosity of what is available and I've found myself developing a fondness for Marquise cut stone in engagement rings with very simple/classic accents on the wedding band. I've never worn jewelry so I literally have no idea how this would look. So if you are willing, show me your Marquise cut engagement ring (or others if you just want to share!). Bonus if you share a picture of it on your hand so I can get an idea of the look, and please share what you love, hate, or would suggest avoiding in a ring. We aren't going to pick one per se, he says he wants to surprise me with the actual one he picks and the band design, but he wants me to share what I like and why because he has nothing to base it on since I never wear jewelry.

I love my marquise cut diamond! It's special to me because my moms is also marquise so I feel like we match, lol. I put a few photos below but I'll give some detail for you! My diamond is .5 carat. Marquise diamonds are awesome because they are flatter and longer than any other cut so smaller diamonds actually look larger because of their shape (win! more bang for less buck!) My band is a 14k yellow gold band, its rather thin and I have very long and thin fingers. I feel like this cut fits my style better and my finger shape.

It's so elegant looking and simple but still makes a big statement because its a unique shape. My wedding band is just a band of small diamonds, I think we are getting one for either side.

The only downfall is that the diamond is actually rather sharp. I have cut myself and FH a few times (minor cuts) on accident because it scraped the skin wrong. It has also snagged a sweater or two. Other than that I'm obsessed with it and couldn't imagine having a different ring!

FH bought mine from Blue Nile. He picked the specific diamond he wanted and the setting he wanted and they shipped it to our house. It was way more affordable doing it that way than going to a brick and mortar store.

Your ring is absolutely stunning! As are you, you have a beautiful smile in that photograph! Thank you for sharing in such detail the pros and cons. I hadn't thought of the cut giving you "more bang for your buck", that's kind of nice. The thing I like most is that it is elegant but not super flashy. I am a gal of simple taste so a big flashy diamond or big Halo ring (although beautiful) just don't suit me. I love the wedding bands that give accent surrounding the Marquise stone on a solitaire band. I think it's super tasteful and beautiful. Thank you so much for taking the time to share, and congratulations on your engagement!!

My set 😍 I absolutely love it. My husband got a marquise because he loved the tale behind it about the king who commissioned a stone that looked like his wife's lips

Okay this post says mistress 😂 but I doubt the employee selling him the ring thought that made a good engagement story

Mine is likely way too much for someone with a preference for simple but I love marquise cut and I feel like I can’t miss an opportunity to show it off. Can’t wait to see yours when you get it!!

Awe you just made my night! They are Smoky Quartz. Fh designed it with the knowledge I wanted a colored stone as the center. His inspriation was a snowflake as I love Christmas/winter and both our wedding and will have been in December. I never thought of needing confidence to wear my ring but I do feel under dressed if I wear lazy clothes or don’t put makeup on Smiley smile

I remember when I originally looked at engagement rings, I was open to anything except the marquise or emerald cut.

I looked at multiple places over the course of a couple of months. I didn’t want my then fiancé to spend a ton and I couldn’t believe how much rings cost! Anyway, after about two months, I came across the most beautiful ring I had ever seen!

I asked the sales representative what shape it was considered because I had never seen anything like it. She laughed (knowing I was completely against the marquise) and then informed me it was in fact a marquise. I was in love!

Years later, I am equally in love and cannot tell you how many compliments I have received.

That’s my engagement ring with the band we picked out and I love it. The shell has just my engagement ring. its a blue sapphire, i personally do not like diamonds and blue is my favorite color so it was an easy win for him. I grew up with this cut on my mom and grandmothers hands. Side note my stone isnt as dark as pictured the lighting plays a big effect on the shade of blue my ring takes. my stone is .5 carrot.
