Show me your fondant-free cakes!

This is our cake in butter cream. Lot's of compliments on the cake as we served it for dessert with a scoop of ice cream and chocolate syrup.

I'm loving these and clearly thought a lot of what I saw was fondant wasn't!

This will be the design of ours. No flowers though.

I love this post! I don't like fondant either

We haven't ordered our cake yet, but this is an example of the style we want from our bakery's website. We will be going with buttercream because we are not really fans of fondant cakes.

Ours was buttercream. We save the top layer and ate it on our one year- not going to lie it was amazing, no freezer burn, just yum!

Id prefer a buttercream cake, but everything I've read says outdoor summer weddings should use fondant. we meet with cake bakers at the end of this month.

We did a coconut cake with cream cheese frosting. The frosting was covered in coconut shavings (minus some frosted piping around the bottom). I loved the look of the coconut flakes, it was almost like snow. I don't have a picture on my work computer or phone right now, but similar to this:

Elyse- yes we did, but I had a textured tier and only one width of stripes! haha

Since our cake was air brushed, we had no choice but to have fondant. I usually don't like fondant, but our baker makes the best fondant that I've ever had.

Buttercream frosting all the way

Ours was simple, but lovely.

Here are our cakes, 6 different flavors but all had a whipped cream/cream cheese frosting. They were delicious!
