Show me your binder

DisneyNut, on April 9, 2014 at 9:56 AM Posted in Planning 0 31

I am trying to get organized because it's driving me nuts mainly. I was sitting on the bed with stuff spread out everywhere last night. FH laughed at me and asked if his OCD was rubbing off on me. I think it might be.

I am at work right now and don't have mine with me, but I have a 3 ring binder---my FH makes fun of me, even the binder is purple to match our wedding colors haha--but in it I have tons of dividers: ceremony, officiant, reception, dj, florist, videographer, photographer, hair/makeup, dresses, miscellaneous business cards, and then in each of those sections I have either hole punched the contracts and important paperwork and put them in the appropriate section, or I have the plastic page protectors and I have slid stuff in there. Also, I am really OCD when it comes to things, and our wedding isn't until September 2015. I like to actually be able to write things/see things as far as a calendar with appointments, important dates, etc. So I scoured the internet to find a calendar/planner that had to A) Be 2014 and 2015 all in the same calendar and B) make sure it was a monthly planner and not a weekly one. I finally found one online and ordered it, so that's in my wedding binder as well. I have dates when things are due written down, appointments with vendors, dates of bridal shows, and starting in September of this year, I even have a notecard paperclipped to each month that lists the things I need to accomplish that month. Like I said, I'm kind of anal/OCD and my FH makes fun of me for it haha. I can post pictures later if you want to actually see it!

@JordanB that's exactly what I was looking for. What all dividers you all have. I'm late getting mine together but I am putting honeymoon and everything in there now. I love having it all together.

I totally know what you mean--it's so nice to actually have everything all in one place!

I actually remembered I had my binder in my car, I have a meeting after work today with a vendor, so I was able to look at mine. Here are a few pictures, and then here are the exact tabs I have:

    -Guest List

-DOC (This has correspondence with the various ones I have been in contact with. I am meeting one today actually so hopefully I will be able to get rid of all the other stuff in here )

-Venue (our venue is the same for ceremony and reception, so this is where I have the contract, catering menu, stuff like that)

-Ceremony (things regarding the officiant, a copy of ceremonies she sent us, correspondence with our ceremony musician)

-Stationary (I haven't ordered STD's or invites or anything yet, so this just has ideas I like, some price quotes I have, things like that)

    -Photographer

    -Videographer

    -DJ

    -Floral and Decor

-Dresses (I haven't gotten mine yet, so ideas of ones I like mostly)

-Hair/Makeup (mostly just business cards of people I have met at Bridal Shows, I won't decide this vendor til early next year)

    -Cake

-Hotel Block (Contracts/correspondence with the hotels we are setting up blocks at)

-Honeymoon (My favorite tab Smiley smile

-Miscellaneous (Websites I have come across that I wanted to save for later, random business cards of different vendors from bridal shows that I probably won't need but just in case)

Oh Ashley, can I just tell you how excited I am to see your binder?! You are the first person I have come across that actually has one like me! Everyone makes fun of me, too but I don't even care. It is my Bible as well. They especially make fun of me for it because my wedding is not for another year and a half but I already have the thing packed full, and our wedding is basically planned. I know from reading your posts that yours is too, and yours is only a couple of months before mine. It's like we are soul sisters haha.

I'm an event planner by profession, so I have to be ridiculously organized, or I'll lose my mind. I absolutely love Staples M Arc system. It's like a 3-ring binder, in that you can change the order of everything and add documents, but it flips like a regular notebook. So, if I bring it on vendor visits, I don't need space for an entire 3-ring binder opened on a table. Hopefully that makes sense.

    Here's a link to the line: http://www.staples.com/M-by-Staples-Arc-Notebook-System/cat_CL165557

I have 1.5 or 2" rings, dividers, folders, and flags.

I feel that I am jumping the gun with the planning, but I am happy to see that Jordan is getting married a month before me and she is a little planning machine! I feel inadequate and I think I better get a move on! Thanks for the inspiration ladies!

Here's mine, it goes everywhere with me. It's on my desk right now actually. It's like an accordian file but more sturdy. My tabs are the common ones-DJ, Cake, Officiant, Venue etc. And then in the front pocket I keep a pad of paper and our excel spreadsheet for budget tracking and deposits.

@BostonBride, don't feel inadequate! I am definitely a little planning machine and everyone thinks I am crazy for having everything basically planned! Now I feel like I am just sitting around twiddling my thumbs waiting for time to pass before I can do the rest! But don't feel like you are jumping the gun! I have been told many times by vendors "It's never too early when it comes to wedding planning!"

    @Ashley--SS it is Smiley smile

No binder. I use WW's vender manager, checklist, and budget tool, have a ton of spreadsheets, and a folder for receipts. I hate unnecessary paperwork.

I keep my budget and guest list on excel spreadsheets, which are saved to my computer AND to a flash drive. Right now I don't have much paperwork-wise, but my contracts and any important brochures are stuck in those plastic document protectors each behind their respective tab (venues, DJ, photographer, etc.)

Okay, so this right up my alley...I'm so in love with my binder! I'm ridiculously organized and detail-oriented...I literally was anxious up until the day this was all put together with up to date information! Haha.

    Here are my tabs:

    - Calendar & Timeline

    - Inventory & Checklists

    - Budget & Costs

    - Guest List & Invites

    - Inspiration/Theme

    - Wedding Party

    - Beauty

    - Floral

    - Cake

    - Menu & Reception

    - DJ & Music

    - Photo & Video

    - Honeymoon

    - Accommodations

    - Alcohol & Drinks

    - Favors & Gifts

    - Packing Lists

    - Schedules

    - Post-Wedding

I not only just put ideas or magazine clippings (like I used to until I got anxious about it!), I go on microsoft word or excel to make summary sheets of everything involved. Some pictures are below of what I'm talking about, like the menu or the wedding party apparel! Once everything's been figured out, I like to have a sheet of all the information as the first thing I see in that tab. Also, I have a matching (and more in depth & constantly up to date) excel sheet on my mac with a million tabs of everything from pricing different bottles as favors, to gift ideas & inventory lists! My dream job is a wedding planner, or event planner. I love being organized! Here are photos!
