Shouldn’t have done it

Rachel, on October 10, 2019 at 12:42 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
I bought my dress and i still have pictures of it then and i felt on top of the world and i look amazing. I took it to get altered and i took my mom. Which i never do. But i was trying to include her. She suggested to take the straps up a bit. Well i was trying to be nice and let her have an input. Well it’s 10 days before my wedding and i hate my dress. I’m short to begin with so even the slightest alteration moves my waistline. I’m so scared to call the alterations lady because i already know the answer is going to be that she can’t fix it. Not to mention there is no time. My dress is all lace and the straps were made of a little lace and embroidered design. That was the only thing Ive ever thought about growing up. Now my dress makes me look like I’m trying on someone else’s.

I think you have some options here my friend. You could get a sample dress of the rack with this short amount of time (we have the same date). You could get some type of belt to maybe help realign the waist for you. Or you could call the seamstress and tell her how you’re feeling and get her advice on what she is able to do in such a short amount of time.

Honestly speaking, we’ve probably all hated our dress or felt not as beautiful as we should in it at some point in our planning process
    i know i have.

Best of luck to you my dear! 💕💕

It sounds like you just had the straps shortened. Can you add a bit of strap back? I'm sure the seamstress will have a way to blend the old and new fabric and make it look nice if she can't find more of the same fabric. Or did she alter everything after the straps were tightened? I hope you're able to fix it!! (Also, PP's belt idea is great!)

I would definitely call the alterations lady. And if she cannot fix it for you, I would just keep calling different places until you get someone that can. If it is absolutely not an option to fix the straps, could you just take the straps off and make the dress strapless? Not having the straps would definitely allow you to lower the waistline a bit

Can you just take the straps off? maybe try the dress strapless! Or instead of two straps turn it into a halter top and cut the back side of the straps so you can tie them around your neck, that way the waistline lower! Good luck and let us know how it all turns out!

Wait do you hate your mom's input on the alterations or hate the dress altogether now?

Im so sorry this happened to you!! I would definitely call the seamstress just to see what your options, if any are. I'm sure they an do something!! I do like the other ladies idea about the belt, that would be beautiful and help reassign your waist line!! Good luck!! I'm sure you'll be able to figure something out!!

Well there is DEFINITELY still time. Don’t go into this fatalistically. Go to your seamstress ASAP, get in the dress, and trouble shoot. She might have an idea or solution even if it’s not perfect. At one of my fittings there was another girl picking up her dress and she needed a strap adjustment and they didn’t it on the spot— it took maybe 10 minutes and she still walked out with her dress that day. If the seamstress you used before can’t do anything, someone else can. If the front looks good maybe they can add material in the back. Even if it’s different from the rest, they could maybe add some embellishment to hide it, or on the very tops of your shoulders — somewhere where it’s not in your face and a little flair would look normal. Although they may even have saved material or seen the straps in a way that they could still be adjusted. Always ask— don’t try to talk yourself out of a fix before speaking to a professional!

    Hey!
Do you mind showing a picture, of you wearing the dress? Perhaps, it's just nerves?
Surely the person doing the alterations, had pride in her work, and wouldn't let your mom override her knowledge of how a dress should hang?

Definitely contact the seamstress. They can work magic!❤
Hugs to you! It will be ok!!

I spoke with the alterations lady and she stated that if i took the little bit off my hips that i wanted then I wouldn’t be able to sit down. It’s a mermaid, so i wanted it tight.

This is what it looks like now. I felt like it was too baggy in the hips. She also said she can’t make the strap longer. It would mess with the integrity of the dress.
