Shoulders must be covered

Amy, on March 3, 2011 at 3:28 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Help! I bought my dress before we booked the church and now I have to cover my shoulders for the ceremony. The church coordinator said I could seperate the two straps and insert veil material as coverage or I could wear a jacket. I think I'm going to detach the straps for the reception anyway. So, my question is...add material, get a jacket..or do something else? The first photos are of my dress, followed by a photo of a jacket that was worn at our church a few months ago.

I should also say that I am wearing a veil for the ceremony (fingertip).

I like that little jacket and if its just for the ceremony I think it would be fine. Will they let you do a sheer shawl?

You could do a bolero, or is this not enough coverage?

Get a sheer jacket like the one in your picture... if they are ok with sheer. I wouldn't add material to the actual dress.... especially since you want to detach the straps...

My step daughter had to wear a bolero jacket for her ceremony becuase of the church rules. She got a plain satin one for about $35 at David's Bridal. They also had really beautiful beaded ones at Alfred Angelo that were made of a sheer material and then had beading on it. They were gorgeous but much pricier!

I definately think that a sheer jacket or bolero is the way to go. If you have a bridal consignment shop in your area they might have one too. I have this one in my shop and it is only $30.

I'm just worried the the jacket and the veil together would be too much material?

I know this is not your dress... but you can see that there have been brides with a veil and lace on their arms.... the one dress is pretty textured and still looks good.

Go try your dress on again at the salon, and ask to see jackets and veils with it. You don't need to buy the jacket/ bolero from them if it is too much, but it will give you a peace of mind.

There are many options out there. The company that made your dress might even make jackets, the store just might not have told you about them. Lace, chiffon, sheer, etc. Ask about jackets that match your dress. You could also do a wrap that covers your shoulders for the ceremony.

Excellent suggestions by Hayely C.! Removable elegant bolero jacket will not "clash" with your veil!
