Should we get honeymoon insurance?

soon2bemrs2017, on September 5, 2017 at 8:38 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 21

I feel silly worrying about this compared to all the worry these poor people in the path of Irma are experiencing but how late can you get your honeymoon insurance? Our honeymoon is suppose to be in October in St Thomas which is right in the path. Is it too late to buy honeymoon insurance? Anybody else have any other advice in the event that Irma destroys our resort? We just paid for our honeymoon in full

Yes you should be able to get insurance still and I would if I were you. We have our Honeymoon booked for the Bahamas in May so we're in this Facebook group of our sandals resort and there are so many that didn't get insurance and now screwed. We opted to get it right away. Never know what's going to happen. Irma is a strong hurricane. Hurricane Matthew was a category 3 (I think) and closed the sandals resort in the Bahamas for 3 months.

I am supposed to be in st thomas on the 25th. They are getting pounded right now. And someone in the group i follow posted pics of roof damage and parts blowing off of the hotel i am staying in. I believe we will be canceling our trip. 1. I dont want to be somewhere under construction and 2. I want crystal clear water. Im sure it wont be clear by then. I feel like i have a black cloud over me. ( they didnt order my fh tux and they lost my ring. Tux will be here today they just called and ring still up in the air) ill make a decision in the coming days. Thank god we got insurance. I already talked to my agent yesterday and i can cancel my trip 48 hr prior to my departure. So we shall see what happens

EDIT: i hit send too fast!! Of course i am praying for all the affected people right now. The camera went down so i am sure they have lost power. I hope this storm passes quickly and no one loses their life.

I've never done this for a trip but I would for a honeymoon.

We were supposed to go to Miami tomorrow evening for the weekend. Hotel was canceled early enough so we do not owe anything. AA is being difficult and will only allow us to rebook to Miami later this month. Hoping as a frequent flier that I can get change fee waived.

FH and I decided yesterday to buy it after seeing the news about Irma, and now there are 2 other storms already named after Irma. I looked in to it and you can buy a policy up to 24 hours before your trip but in the case of a hurricane you have to already have the policy purchased at least 24 hours before the hurricane (or tropical storm) is named, otherwise it isn't covered. We are buying a policy from Travel Guard by AIG later tonight since our honeymoon is in Punta Cana the 3rd week in October.

Absolutely! Failing to get travel insurance can mean a 100% loss of what you've paid for your trip. Additionally, most health insurance policies don't cover you outside the US. If you become sick or injured while traveling, it could be financially devastating! If the agency that you booked your trip with doesn't offer coverage, please give us a shout. Also, please note that most policies require that you purchase within 14 days to cover any pre-existing conditions.

We didn't get insurance and we are supposed to go to Puerto Rico the first week of November. We are remaining optimistic, but the reality is we may have to make other plans. I talked with Hilton today, who will let us transfer our deposit and give us THE SAME RATE at any of their other properties, which was amazing because we found such a great deal. We booked our flights with southwest so we are covered there to transfer with no fees. I'm heartbroken for the people and I feel completely selfish that I'm upset about a vacation when people are losing everything they have. Smiley sad

YES absolutely no doubt get the stinking insurance! Insure your car when you get there. Insure your event. Insure your FH/FW. That last one sounds a bit much but seriously life happens so cover your a$$!

This shows resorts that are currently closed in St. Martin. I'd take a look.
