I feel like our reception is too short (as I am looking at our timeline). Our timeline is like this (and it is a Friday night wedding): 4:30- Ceremony starts 5-6:00- Cocktail hour (we are doing first look pictures, so we will be at our CH 1/2 way through) 6-9:00- reception (dinner, dancing,...

I feel like our reception is too short (as I am looking at our timeline). Our timeline is like this (and it is a Friday night wedding):

4:30- Ceremony starts

5-6:00- Cocktail hour (we are doing first look pictures, so we will be at our CH 1/2 way through)

6-9:00- reception (dinner, dancing, whatever).

Should we add an hour? It just seems that 9:00 is way early. We are going out after (and we rented a gorgeous mansion on the beach where we are hosting our rehearsal dinner). Am I over thinking this?

Standard around me is a five-hour reception (one-hour cocktail hour and four hours for the reception.) If you can afford it, I would go for it! You will never get the time with your guests back! But also consider besides paying for the venue/catering, you may have to pay the DJ/band, photographer if you want to, etc. for that extra amount of time.
