Should i put our Honeymoon On Hold

Natalia, on June 12, 2019 at 2:29 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 22

We are spending a lot of money on our wedding and we are also planning on buying a house. Originally we wanted to go abroad for our honeymoon, but I don't believe we will have the funds to do a big trip. But I would still like to enjoy a few days with my husband, so should I plan a small trip to Disney? Or should I just wait for us to get settled and make the trip we want later?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

You should do whatever you can comfortably afford. No wedding or vacation is worth going into debt. A short getaway to a close location would be great, but only if you can do so without strain or stress. If you want to buy a house, it may be best to save all your money for that. Trips usually end up being more expensive than we think because you want to indulge and enjoy yourself so it’s easy to overspend.

I have a friend who is saving up for a nice honeymoon later. Nothing is wrong with either option. I agree with PP about doing what's comfortable for you.

My FH and I decided to put our honeymoon off until we can comfortable afford to do something really nice and can fully enjoy ourselves without feeling worried about money.

It’s totally up to you. I have a friend who skipped a honeymoon altogether and choose to celebrate her 5 year anniversary with a month long trip to Europe! They did take a few days after the wedding to just enjoy each other’s company.

We just bought a brand new house and will be moving in 3 weeks after our wedding. We are putting off our honeymoon until our 1 year anniversary since we have so much going on and want to spend money on decorating our house.

I personally felt like it was isnt for us to have those few days alone together after all the wedding commotion to just enjoy one another so we have planned a more affordable honeymoon. We decided a 7 night cruise would be relaxing and allow us to enjoy ourselves and being newly married. Now everyone's different but hopefully y'all will figure out what works for you both.

My FH and I are going to go to a family’s lake house nearby after the wedding for a few days alone and then doing a bigger honeymoon in a year or two after when we can afford it.

I honestly think if you can afford a trip to Disney you may be able to afford a trip to the Caribbean or even a cruise and some places in Europe. A honeymoon doesn’t have to be right after your wedding so you could just get a hotel for a couple days and then go on a honeymoon months or a year after the wedding.

If a honeymoon is really important try to cut cost or corners somewhere with the wedding and put more into the honeymoon. If that's not possible I would wait and not go into debt. Houses are expensive!

We are in a similar financial situation so we have decided to do our honeymoon in September or October of 2020 (we are getting married June 2020). We will however be going somewhere more affordable for a few days following the wedding for a “mini-moon”.

You can totally do a minimoon or honeymoon at Disney. I know a couple that booked their honeymoon with https://www.undercovertourist.com/ and www.airbnb.com. If you're concerned about money, you can go somewhere for a few days just to get away, like an inn or bed and breakfast.

I say do both. Plan the Disney trip for now and then plan a big trip for when you can afford it =)

I agree. We will be taking two days after the wedding just to be together after the wedding but I’m planning to have our honeymoon for our one year anniversary also.🙂

Whatever works for you is what you should do. Being married isn't about the honeymoon, or the money spent on a wedding. You have the rest of your lives to go on trips, including a big honeymoon! We opted to stay in the US but to go somewhere we hadn't been before.

My husband and I just got back from Disney! It was great but just as expensive as a smaller trip to the Caribbean or Mexico. Disney isn’t that cheap. But I would take a couple days off just for yourself.

We are waiting so we can go overseas next year! Also buying a house and paying for the wedding ourselves.

My fiance and I are in the same boat. We decided to take a couple extra days at the resort where we are having the wedding so that we can decompress and just bask in the glow of our wedding before heading back to real life. We are planning on doing our dream honeymoon later. We don't want to compromise our dream honeymoon because of everything else.
