Should I Put a Fit and Flare Petticoat/Slip Under My Dress?

Allison, on July 19, 2017 at 1:02 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 5

I found this dress last week and fell in love! However, I was unable to commit to it, partially due to my indecisive nature, but largely because I disliked the "flatness" to the bottom of the dress.

It is a Maggie Sottero and on the website, it is described as a fit and flare. However, on my body, it appears to be more of a sheath silhouette--a style I don't think flatters me.

Here's the link to the dress on Maggie's website: https://www.maggiesottero.com/maggie-sottero/venita/10150

Based on your experience and expertise, do you think a fit-and-flare slip would help the skirt appear fuller? Or perhaps another style would work better? Thank you kindly in advance!

I think it looks like a typical fit and flare. Take into consideration how comfortable you'll be with a petticoat underneath. I find them very scratchy and annoying. I also don't think any undergarment will make it poof the way certain dresses are made to. Go back and try it on again and then try on something more flared and see what you like better.

I think it looks beautiful on you! Honestly! Unless you want it bigger at the bottom I wouldn't worry about it.

Lovely dress that looks amazing on you. That being said, I would go back to the shop and ask to try the dress with a fit and flare slip and see if you like the shape better.

I reallyyyy love this dress on you maybe your seamstress can just add poof to it without having to use a petticoat

I opted to not have a slip. I tried it with my A line and felt it was more difficult to move around in. I didn't want more layers than was necessary. Like a PP said if you want more poof I'd try a mermaid rather than adding a petticoat unless you really love this one. Or maybe the seamstress can add a few layers under to help it poof. I'd go back, try with a petticoat on, and ask about adding layer during alterations.
