Should I print invitations?

gapeach, on August 18, 2016 at 1:28 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 20

Does anyone have personal experience as to whether it is more cost effective to print invitations or just buy the suite flat out? I'm trying not to spend 1000$ just on invitations, but idk if purchasing a digital copy and having them printed at a store is any cheaper. Thoughts? Suggestions?

If you have a digital copy I think you can print them via Vistaprint.com which is pretty cheap.

I know you can get free templates from wedding paper divas. You could buy a small amount of card stock (or one piece) and give it a whirl

I personally am buying a template from etsy for around $35 then having them printed at papersandmore.com with the metallic cardstock and gold envelopes I've picked I'm looking at about $120 overall for 50 invitations

I recommend Ann's Bridal Bargains. I am getting our invitations for around $300 and that includes rsvp and reception cards! There's always a sale going on too. Earlier this week they had a 30% off offer!

It's definitely cheaper to print your own. Companies to try for the most economical printing: vistaprint.com, 123print.com, paperandmore.com Shop around and see what quantity you can get for the price you're looking for. Not every invite on these sites comes in a suite but some suggest pieces to complete the set and others you'd need to order different sizes, say for like your rsvp. You can request paper/print samples from each of these places too before you make your decision. I've used all 3 of the above to print invitations. All are good!

I was thinking about printing my own and my BM who helped print invites for another friend said with the cost of quality card stock and the massive time investment it wasn't worth it, since there are plenty of places you can get cheap printing done. I took her at her word and plan to order from somewhere.

I have to disagree with Karen. There are places to get quality cardstock and printing for a low cost. Paper and More would be the best route to go if you are looking for a quality cardstock. Their printing is super reasonable and you can pick any type of cardstock from their collection (which is extensive) for a very small cost adjustment for paper type. I've been designing and printing invitations and other stationery for years. An example: I designed and printed my sisters invitations for her wedding this past May - 150 invitations and RSVPs on a linen cardstock with matching envelopes = $200 / $1.33 for each set of invite/rsvp.

We had a friend print for us, all we paid for was card stock and envelopes. Only thing I'd say is it's time intensive to cut them out-you want to make sure the edges are straight and that the measurements are right if you're putting them in pockets. But it's definitely cheaper to diy if you have the time

I bought a very very cute invite template on etsy! $18. Then bought my own card stock which was about $15 I bought two burlap colored and one blue and plan white paper to do some layering. Figure out how many invites you need. I only needed 85, I have enough to make 100. The template prints 2 invites per page one regular size card stock so I will have to cut it down. I will use belly bands to hold everything together which you can make yourself. Or use ribbon. I averaged out all of my invites to be made under $90. We are printing them at home using regular black ink so no need for a print shop. Due to not needing to feed special sized paper we havnt had an issue with the print misprinting on lines or anything!

Woah, you definitely don't need to spend $1,000 on invites!! I spent like $200 on invites from Vistaprint.com. They run sales all the time, and we took advantage of a great Black Friday sale. We saved so much we were able to upgrade to the linen finish paper (their nicest) and pre-printed RSVP envelopes. Also, remember you don't order an invite for each person - just for each couple/family with like 4-5 extras just in case and for keepsakes. There is a LOT of space in between spending $1k and printing them yourself at home.

It depends what kind of invitations you want, and how many. I wanted invites on a particular kind of stationery (with pearl or beveled border) so couldn't get them printed up by Vistaprint etc. Those services only print on flat cardstock, as far as I could tell.

So I checked out DIY kits at Jo-Anns and other craft stores and did the math. Because we need 85 invitations we'd have had to purchase kits for 100. Even with in-store coupons, the kits plus the cost of printing would have made it about $150 (not including the cost of the ink cartridge). I found higher-quality invites on Etsy for $200, and decided that the extra $50 was well worth the time and energy it saved. Plus, I got nicer invites (raised lettering!) Win-win.

That said, we're inviting about 150. For a smaller wedding, or if I was ok with flat cardstock, I would have DIYed it.

The attached invite was from TheAmericanWedding, and they were fantastic to work with, BTW!

I spent maybe $65 total on my invitations. I bought a digital copy from someone on etsy ($10) then had someone local create a directions/RSVP card to go with it. That same local person printed them for me. I had 60 made but only sent 40 invites. I hand delivered about 15 of them & did online/phone Rsvps. Mine looked great! You definitely don't have to spend anywhere close to $1000.

I'm planning on using Vistaprint after seeing a friend's invitations that she bought from their site. The quality is so much better than I expected, and they have plenty of designs to fit any style. Plus, they have a lot of sales and promo codes so you can always get a good deal!

I bought a suite from Etsy. My digital file was two to a page & rsvp card four to a page. Pretty cheap to print at home if you buy card stock from Hobby Lobby when on sale or use 40% coupon.
