Should i postpone my wedding date (it's in September 2020) due to coronavirus?

Dear all,

We have set our wedding date in September 2020. Right now I am very worried that my parents won't be able to make it to the wedding due to the current coronavirus situation.

My parents are living in China. Thank god they are alright and the city they are living in is not badly affected. My mum said that September is still far away so I shouldn't worry too much and that they will be able to come because she thinks the situation will have settled until then. The location we have booked allows us to postpone/cancel the date until 6 months prior to the wedding date so that leaves us like less than a month to decide.

Right now I don't really know what to do. I don't want to get married if my parents are absent.. Everyone is saying I am worrying too much... What do you think?

I think it’s ok to keep your date. It’s still pretty far away

I agree keep your date. They’re supposed to have a vaccine by early summer anyways. Do you have wedding insurance? I’d purchase that to make sure you’re covered if you do end up needing to back out.

Wishing your parents well and they’re getting all the food/supplies deliveries they need.

Keep your day. Sept is 7 months away. Also, travel restrictions for the US right now don’t apply to travelers coming from China if they’re immediate family of US citizens for permanent residents if that makes a difference in their situation. Since they’re not in Hubei, it’s just 14 days if self isolation. Even if they don’t fall into the citizen, permanent resident, or family of one is those. they can go to another country, stay there at least 14 days and then fly into the US. As long as they’re not traveling directly from China and enough time has passed. And this is is WORST case scenario. I can take imagine that city wide shutdowns and travel restrictions will still be in place through summer and into September. Even if the worst happens, there could still be multiple ways they could travel to US (assuming current levels of restriction).

I agree with PPs. I would keep your date for now but looking into wedding insurance may be a good idea. I completely understand your worry and I wouldn’t want to get married without my parents there either. I’m sure this is so stressful for you! Well wishes to you and your family!
