Should i postpone dress shopping until family can be there?

Alessandra, on March 13, 2020 at 10:28 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

Hello lovely brides!

My wedding is in May 2021. I live in Michigan but my parents live in Texas and my sister/MOH lives in Wisconsin. My parents and sister were all planning on flying into Michigan next weekend to go dress shipping with me. Unfortunately with the current Corona virus situation, we have mutually decided it would be smarter for them not to travel. My question is, should I cancel my appointments, or still go shopping with a few girlfriends instead? I have only gone shopping once before and had a less than stellar experience (went to david's bridal with a friend, no family). I am anxious to continue shopping but also don't want to miss out on something special by not having my family there. How important was it for you to have your family there during your shopping experience? Should I postpone my shopping until my my family can travel again?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

It depends on how much you care if they are there or not. I’m not super close with my mom, she wasn’t there when I picked out my dress. But looking back now, I kind of regret it and possibly missed out on a special moment.

    Hi Alessandra,
Honestly, I think shopping alone or with maybe your MOH would be best, before I went looking for my dream dress, I was advised by girlfriends to bring as few people as possible because you get so many opinions, and it can cloud your judgement and pressure you into liking a dress that your ❤️ doesn't love, your mom, and other family can see what YOU may be loving later!!! My family didn't like what I picked, but it's MY WEDDING, and the dress that I WANT!Should i postpone dress shopping until family can be there? 1

Up to you! I only did one trip with my mom/sister then one trip with my mom/friend. But to most shops I went by myself and enjoyed a more private experience. My bridal stylists were great!

I would wait a bit if you want certain family members to join.

I would honestly recommend going shopping now (if you want to) with friends or alone, and if it's important that family be there then wait to make your final decision when they can come!

I would wait because my family is important you dont want to find that one without them.. But if you chose to go with friends is there a way you can video chat with them to be there...
