Should i pay extra for Gluten Free guest?

I would certainly make sure she has some sort of dessert that she can eat, since you are providing it for everyone else. Are you able to buy a single slice of gluten free cake (either from your cake baker or from a different baker), and serve that to her? That way, you don't have to buy an entire gluten free cake, and she'd still have dessert that she can enjoy.

All guests should receive the same level of hospitality or don’t invite them. Is there a gluten free bakery in your area that has cakes for sale if the bakery you are already using doesn’t offer that option? If someone is gluten free (or any dietary restriction for that matter), it doesn’t reflect well on you as hosts to leave them out with nothing to serve and it’s not pleasant for them as a guest.

I wouldn’t pay more to make your entire cake gluten-free, but if there is an option for a slice of gluten-free cake or cupcake, is a nice gesture that will be appreciated by your guest.


As someone who has been gluten-free for over 10 years, I always appreciate it when the host/hostess takes my needs into account and provides a meal and dessert option. And thank you for making sure your gluten-free and vegan guests have a meal option.

Yea, as Monica mentioned, there's no need to make a whole gluten-free cake. I personaly would just give a mini-sized cake!

It's your responsibility to have something for people with food issues to eat but that doesn't mean you need to be like a restaurant with endless choices and options. So no, you don't need to buy a whole separate cake or any cake.

A gluten free cupcake would be a great way to accommodate! It may seem like a hassle but that guest will likely be ecstatic to be included like that and will spread that joy to the people around them.

As a gluten free, dairy free and egg free person (not by choice) it is always so appreciated when there is a dessert other than fruits to eat at weddings for dessert. As mentioned above, I wouldn't go out of our way to get a GF cake, just get a specific GF dessert item for that guest to enjoy while everyone else is eating cake so they feel included as well. I have even received fresh fruit gelatos and they were delightful.
