Should i help future mother in law, or let it be?

A few months ago my FMIL was asking my FH all sorts of questions about the wedding planning and rehearsal dinner plans. He doesn't know much about the planning so I reached out to his mom and sent her a text letting her know I'd be more than happy to help her plan the rehearsal dinner, but I know it's usually (we're having a very traditional wedding..my parents are paying for it) the grooms family that plans it and I don't want to step on any toes and make it seem like I'm taking over. (I know the groom of a bride who did that. She totally, and purposefully, ran over all the ideas that the mother had. And made very last minute changes) So I told her that, gave her the dates, told her where we're going to rehearse (our venue has 3 weddings that weekend) and what time we'd probably be eating dinner. I also made it known that I had no problem keeping it simple since we're having a full reception with a meal for the wedding. Shortly after our engagement, they mentioned having a bbq rehearsal which I agreed would be great. I never got a response to that text. We've texted since, but not about that topic. My FH says she asks him about it from time to time. Should I ask her if she's made any plans, or leave it be? I've also tried really hard to include her in the planning process. It gets kind of awkward too because my parents are spending a sizable amount of money on the wedding, which she thinks is pretty ridiculous cause it's "just a wedding". She was there when I got my dress, and I invited her to the cake tasting and floral meetings, but she can only do weekends, which we all know is kind of impossible with weddings cause they kind of happen on weekends...

I guess it's partially dependent on your relationship with your FMIL, but I don't think a simple text like, "hey, FH mentioned you talked to him about the rehearsal dinner. Let me know if you need any help! 🙂"

Did she offer to pay? If she did not offer then she may not be paying for it. I would ask her if she was planning on Hosting it. I would ask what time and place if she is.

Did she offer to pay or just ask about plans? If she offered, I would wait until 2 months out and bring it up.

She might be concerned about money and procrastinating because she doesn't know what to do especially if she is intimidated by the amount your parents are spending. Have your FH ask her what she wants/can do and work around that. I wouldn't assume that she is hosting it unless she says so. If not you may need to plan something yourself but find a way to make her feel included in the planning.

Did she ever actually offer to host the RD or was she just generally asking him questions? I'd probably be a little put off if my future DIL assumed I was paying.

If she did offer, I think your FI needs to reach out to see if that is still the plan and give her til a month or two out to plan. If she doesn't, you should host it yourselves.
