Should i go through with a commitment ceremony even though my partner is indiffrent

Alyssa, on February 21, 2026 at 10:54 PM Posted in Planning 0 2

So I have decided to do a commitment ceremony for my grandmother who is ill. Its in december and im hoping my grandmother is still with us by then. The problem is i live a plane ride away from my family and its gonna be 1300 to just fly there. This is most of our savings and the rest of our life's savings is being spent on this ceremony. This is it being done as cheaply as possible and only 16 in the guest list.

My partner is not the sentimental type but is not against it either. He is concerned about us spending all our money on a last minute ceremony. Now im having second thoughts about this and wonder if I should call things off before we actually spend the money. What are your thoughts?

How about having a legal courthouse wedding or commitment ceremony locally and streaming it for grandmother and relatives? Then travel to celebrate in-person when fares are not last-minute? While your emotions are heightened, I encourage you and your partner to make this decision Together as a team. Keep your money for your shared life together.

You can check if anyone would be wanting to sponsor this event as a gift to your grandmother to enjoy this early celebration. Otherwise, it may be best to go with the previous poster's recommendation.
