Should i go ahead and do my save the dates or wait?

Bella, on October 14, 2019 at 6:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 12
So I just had engagament pictures taken by a up and coming photographer who did them for free. They turned out amazing. Fall themed. I already have my wedding photographer booked and plan to do another longer shoot with clothes changes and such. However my photographer isn't available at ALL till next year. My wedding is 10-16-20. I was planning on sending them out around the holidays but I am not sure. We have been engaged for 2 months already and it will be 6 months since we got engaged before I can get them out if I wait. I am worried people might think they aren't invited.

Generally speaking, STDs usually go out 6-8 months before the wedding. Then invitations go 6-8 weeks before the wedding.

STDs are certainly not required, but since you got some engagement photos for free, why not? There are lots of places online where you can design your own, or plug your pictures into the ready-made designs.

They are especially nice if you have a lot of out of town guests, or people coming from farther away. It's a nice heads up for them to save your date!

I would send them out around January or February. At the latest in March. I sent mine out around that time for my October wedding. I also took a year to just to be engaged before I started planning the wedding.

We are definitely doing STD's. Its just a matter of me deciding to do them now or after the second engagement shoot. My wedding photographer is extremely busy so she won't be able to get us in till next year. We have been engaged since August 1. I am worried if I wait too long people will think they aren't invited or that we are having a longer engagement.

Oh lord gracious you are one patient girl. I was on the phone with venues the day after we got engaged. I felt like I was already behind schedule haha.

I see...sorry I didn't get the 2nd shoot thing. Yeah, I was so freaked about timing that we did our engagement shoot a year out. I've had the STDs in a box, waiting to be mailed for like 4 months! Lol. I think planning a wedding makes us a little psycho. Idk. If you like the first set of photos, use them! Especially with the uncertainty of your photographer's schedule. You can always find another use for the 2nd set of photos.

If you go to Magnetstreet.com you can actually design your save the date and order it for free to see how it would come out. I ordered about 10 of them and today I finally placed my final order with a 40% off discount. I loved the luxe satin (it makes the invitation soft). Anyways the point is you can order the personalized sample with the pictures you have and see if you love it. If you do go ahead and use these pictures if not then you know you need to wait for more pictures. Good luck!

I think you would still be fine sending out STD's in December/January as traditionally these are sent out 6-8 months prior to the wedding date. Our wedding is June 2020 and we are aiming to have our's out by the end of this month. If you don't have the second set of pictures by then you can always use those pictures for display at your wedding or as part of your actual invitation.

If you send out your save the dates in the hullabaloo of the holidays, they could get lost in the sea of holiday cards. Especially considering your wedding isn't until october, I would wait. Mine is in June and I am probably waiting until after the holidays.

If you decide to send them out earlier with the current photos, you could always include your new photos on your wedding website. If you aren't doing a website you can have them printed and displayed at the wedding!

I still was in school and working full time. I couldn’t handle doing all of it at the same time. If I could have without stress I would have started earlier! But I’m happy that I was able to enjoy being engaged!
