Should i fire our Dj???

Mrs. Maine, on October 7, 2019 at 10:27 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 7

We are two weeks out from our wedding and everything has been so smooth and stress free until yesterday. We were supposed to meet our DJ on site to review everything. 40 minutes before the meeting he asks for the address (I sent it to him weeks ago) and says he misread it initially and is over an hour away in the wrong direction so we "don't have to meet on site and we can meet another day this week." A, we're two weeks out, my nights are pretty booked. And B, HE booked this meeting on site, not us. This was his request.

He also now informs us we have to rent a generator for his equipment because the ceremony is in a field and he does not have a battery set-up for outdoor ceremonies. We told him about the field months ago... Why would he not mention this until now?? So now we have to reschedule the meeting with him and scramble to find power for HIS equipment.

This guy is a family friend on my FH's side... I don't know if firing him is worth what drama this might create?? But there are two other very responsive DJ's who are available for our date and have all the equipment ready to go...

Should I fire our DJ?

I would fire him if you have a replacement ready to go. Better safe than sorry and he sounds unreliable.

Have you discussed it with FH?

Definitely. He is as annoyed as I am but of course hesitant because this guy is his parent's friend... I just don't know what is worth more, peace of mind about the DJ or not upsetting a family friend and possibly my in-laws. I'm sure we can get a generator and make it work, he's just been pretty unprofessional about all this.

This is why it’s a very bad idea to hire Frendors.

He sounds like he might not even bother to show up. No matter what you’re paying, he feels like he’s doing a favor

You and FH need to sit down with the parents and let them know that the plan is to fire him immediately and hire the other DJ. Also, let them know why.

I mean I'm sure he wouldn't skip out, but I am getting a strong lazy vibe. Thinking back I would never hire a friend again for this reason! And we paid full price for his services, this was in no way a favor.

Do you have a contract with him? If you cancel, will you still owe him the money? At two weeks out we would have owed every single vendor the remaining balances on our contracts so I would check that first.

I'm not sure. This is the one vendor I did not book personally and pay for. It was a sort of gift from FH's parents to provide the DJ so any payments and contracts are through my MIL. That's a very good suggestion though, I will check in with her!
