Should i find a new florist?

Michelle, on March 2, 2020 at 3:16 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 6

I found my florist through my fiance's sister when she got married. She had her bouquets and boutonnieres through this florist at Kroger for a really good deal. For the past several months now we've been talking about designs, flowers, mock-up, quotes, etc. and worked with me in my budget. She was very passionate about it and I liked working with her. When I asked how payment would be made or if there was a contract to be signed she said payment would be made to her so she can get me a really good deal instead of Kroger's price. Which would be $300 in difference... my fiance's sister paid her flowers through Kroger though.

That's when I felt uncomfortable and came on here and people advised that I should have something written between us so I created a contract that she agreed she'd sign. My parents found out and they think that I shouldn't go to her because it's not Kroger and they said it was stealing since she's basically taking the business. I'm this far out and I'm afraid it might be too late to find a new florist. The lady told me I can go through Kroger, up to me but they don't do signed contracts there anyhow.

I mean, is it really any different than say a make-up lady at Macy's or someone on Thumbtack? Argh. I thought I had this figured out but my parents are making me nervous now about moving forward. She haven't given her the contract to sign yet.

I’d just go through her and save the money. You’re hiring her for a service. You are not privy to how she acquired her flowers or supplies and its not your job to investigate such matters either way. It’s not a big deal. It’s flowers for a wedding not the Mona Lisa.

I’m wondering how is it any different than putting my trust in a vendor on thumbtack? My gut instinct just says she’s trying to do her own side hustle is all, and she’s willing to sign a contract and I have her address and phone number. But my family is warning me that if something happens I can’t do anything about it but if I went through Kroger I can file a complaint.

I feel even with signed contracts it can happen to anyone though. I’ve seen on the news unfortunately with photographers.

Not sure if it makes a difference but I just realized she goes directly to the wholesaler with her own pocket.

    What's your reason? Just curious.

I called around other Kroger locations and a lot of the florists don't do weddings. Many of them say they don't know how to, it's too much work, etc. Some of them charge consultation fee some don't. But basically, you pay for the flowers and then the labor cost. How is this different than paying flowers and the labor cost directly to her? The only thing different would be the taxes of it.

If I go with her, I'm still having her sign the contract. I have all her personal information and even if she left, she can still get supplies through the current wholesaler or even online like fiftyflowers. Plus Kroger won't deliver but she will.

I'm visiting my dad's florist this weekend since he claims we can get a deal but I'm sure it'll be over $1,000 and can't beat the price of $700 for everything.
