Should I Cancel my Bridal Shower?

My bridesmaids, mother and MIL didn't offer to throw me a shower. I took it upon myself because I thought that was what I was supposed to do. I booked the place I'm having it, made an event on facebook and bought supplies to have it in 5 weeks. Well, after getting bashed on here for throwing my own,...

Well, after getting bashed on here for throwing my own, should I just cancel? Am i being selfish by having one?

You may can save some on his attire. We have found some really nice suits for FH at goodwill and salvation army stores for 30$ or less. It just take a little extra time.

@breanna. I don't want to sound mean but did you not figure all of this out before you invited everyone?

At this point the least of your concerns are the shower which you need to change the name of and let everyone know it's not a gift giving event. Or talk to your MOH or BM or mom to host it, and please host with more than 2 bottles of wine for 20 ladies.

Now you have 2 1/2 months to come up with the money to cover wedding. Have a yard sale. Can you pick up extra shifts at work? Can you pick up a part time job? Did you get cancellation insurance on your HM? They may keep a small amount and refund you the rest. Summer's a busy time for dog sitters. You could look into that.

There are things that are going to need to be cut for the wedding. Also have you factored in marriage license cost? Do you need a hair cut/color before wedding. Thank you cards?

MOH is helping me with shower now (please don't tell me it was stupid to talk to her about it...) we did factor the marriage license. I cannot pick up extra shifts at work. I work ft for a bank and I am the only person in my position at my branch. Thank you card were bought like a year ago and put with all of my other wedding stuff.

I think it just comes with wedding planning territory. You have really taken the advice well. I think as long as you are cool, calm and collective, the WW community will help you figure out a solution. Hopefully something will workout and a vendor will give you some wiggle room. At least when it is all over you will be married and happy. :-)

I understand why you threw the shower yourself. Especially because everyone wants the entire experience. And if your bridal party wasn't offering to host but all your guests were asking when it is, it makes sense to me that you would think to take on the responsibility. Most people don't live in a world of perfect ettiquite. I don't think your guests will think twice about you hosting. Don't cancel, I think you'd regret it. Maybe ask one of your maids to take it over? Say you've done all the heavy lifting and purchased all the stuff she just needs to play hostess the day of.

OP: Can you or FH maybe drive for Uber or Lyft? That can help. I know how it feels but, keep working on it.

That's nice that your BM offered to help. That will make it less gift grabby. Make sure its known she's hosting.

Would any of the PP ideas help cut cost? Downgrading attire, contacting venue and changing to one day, using plastic place settings?

I understand that you can't pick up more hours at work but what about a second part-time job in the evenings? I started to have a heart attack over us going over our budget and picked up some shifts checking groceries in the evenings for a while. It will be hard for a while, but it's temporary.

Not trying to make excuses for picking up more jobs, but my work needs to approve any 2nd jobs picked up that aren't self employment. I left a PT job when I started working here because I could not get it approved by corporate.

I paid half of the place settings already, it I cancel, I'll lose my deposit and then have to pay the additional cost of getting disposable. A $200 charge would only change to maybe as low as $150. Yes, that's $50 I could use for something else. But $150 for paper plates is senseless.

Fingers crossed I did well enough this past quarter to get my bonus, but I don't find out until August.

My opinion do whatever you want to do just because here in WW if they bash you for it do it! Idk why people feel the need to bash on here for stuff like that maybe its not there cup of tea or its not appropriate but do what you please its your and your FH wedding shower and if you are paying for it who cares what anyone thinks? Smiley smile

Okay so, so far we have the following ways for you to cut back on your budget:

-Buy a suit from a department store, my DH got his from Burlington Coat Factory for $100. That saves you $150.

-Grocery store flowers, that will save you money.

-Cancel the DJ, saves you $400 and you can do an Ipod set up.

Favors/programs aren't necessary but I see that you already have favors. If you can return them, that's more money saved. What does your catering include?
