Should I buy my huge wedding dress a plane ticket?

I just purchased my dress a ticket yesterday! I called the SFO airport security and she said they probably will do a search of my dress through all the tulle and what not. That's frustrating but understandable... I tied all the tulle together so that I could fit the dress into the garment bag! I will just arrive at the airport really early and go through all this. On the way back my dress is getting stuffed into one of those big vacuum seal bag and shrunk down to fit into one of my large suitcases. Wrinkles don't matter as much after the ceremony. Wish me luck everyone! I think I'm going to have to take pictures of me lugging this thing through the airport... what a spectacle! lol

Hi. i was just doing a google search on traveling with a large wedding dress, and i came across your question and comments. The dress i will be traveling with is exactly like yours. I bought mine at Klenfelds in NYC and its a Pnina Tornai. I was wondering how your travel experience was and if you can post pictures. Im flying with Alitalia to Rome and the dress is huge and heavy. Im really starting to freak out now because im scared they wont allow it on the plane, even though i called the airline and they told me it shouldn't be a big problem. Thanks.
