Should i be able to get my deposit back?

Looking for some advice. I'm getting married in Florida in Dec of this year. We have had our caterer booked for 11 months. Booking a few vendors at once, I didn't even notice that we had not signed a contract with them. They run a food truck. We had met them and had our tasting and everything was delicious. We put down a 30% deposit. The only paperwork I have is an invoice (with no policies listed on it) and a receipt from the quickbooks transaction. About a month ago, we found a LOT of bad reviews had come out about them. They also had previously ran two businesses out of state that were shut down for fraud. I am currently going back and forth with them on getting the deposit refunded since there is no contract and no policies listed. They recently emailed me a huge list of policies, stating that they are listed on their socials (not listed there) and on their website (website linked on their FB does not exist). What next steps should I take?

Unfortunately, I think getting your deposit back is going to be extremely difficult if not impossible. You may just have to cut your losses and move onto a different company. Make sure to always have a contract.

I agree with Veronica, I think it would be unlikely to get your deposit back in this scenario. Make sure to always sign a contract first before paying any money.
