It's been a while since I posted here. DH and I were married 8 months ago. We had a lovely traditional Jewish wedding. Our videographer had to have open heart surgery shortly after our wedding, so we just got our video and highlight reel. He had asked us for a list of 6 songs for him to use selections from for our highlight video. We gave him a list of American songs. He used some of our choices, and some of his own.
My issue is during the ceremony part, the background music is not a song we chose. Although the song is in Hebrew and a well known Israeli song, it is not a wedding song. It is actually a mournful wistful song and seems anachronistic in our wedding video. It's an innocent mistake if someone was not Jewish and didn't know the context and history of the song, but to me it feels wrong to have it playing over the ceremony. He didn't ask us about using this music in the video, so I was a bit surprised to hear it in the video. It's a common mistake people make to think "the song's in Hebrew, so it must be ok for this purpose" (in my HS choir, we often sang non-Channukah songs at the winter concert for the sake of checking the multicultural box).
Should we email back and explain the context of the song, and ask him to change the music? I could provide some thematically appropriate song suggestions.
I know he worked hard on our video and really enjoyed researching our traditions to do great filming. He even gave us a discount off his video package because he wanted to have a Jewish wedding in his portfolio.
Thanks for your thoughts!
