Short honeymoon locations in VA

Stephanie, on October 10, 2017 at 4:35 PM Posted in Virginia Planning 0 22

Anyone from VA here on the forums? FH and I are brainstorming places we can drive to for a mini moon after the wedding as we're saving the honeymoon for later in the summer. Does anyone have experience with honeymoon locations like a bed and breakfast or resort within a few hours of central VA you could recommend? There are a lot out there on TripAdvisor, but with some it's hard to tell what the honeymoon options are or if the prices are reasonable. We're at the very beginning of this process, so I'm definitely not as educated on this as I'd like to be. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Smiley smile

We're going to Williamsburg for our mini-moon. There's also beautiful places in Loudoun county and Charlottesville (both have great wineries- I can make recommendations if you want).

Resorts- Landsdowne and Salamander are both nice.

@Trish I would love recommendations! All I know about the wineries around here comes from my trips up and down 151.. haha! I haven't heard of Salamander, but I noticed Landsdowne on a list of possible places. I wasn't sure if it was a resort or not. Smiley smile

Landsdowne is a bit pricey, but look pretty! Salamander is also pretty. Horse drawn carriages and lots of nice scenery. A B&B in Loudoun I can recommend is Stone Manor. Spencer makes delicious scones!

If you go to Loudoun county, I would recommend Hiddencroft for wine, as well as Chrysalis, 50 West, Stone Tower, Fabioli, Tarara...I could go on Smiley smile

In Charlottesville, I loved Jefferson Winery! Dave Matthews owns Blenheim. And Barboursville is supposed to be good. In a non-political way, I would NOT recommend Trump. (Went years before he became President). Michael Shaps wine works, and Keswick.

Let me know if you want more Smiley smile

    ETA: spelling

I can talk VA wineries for days!

@Trish We love Charlottesville and Blenheim! We actually got engaged at Monticello, so it might be special to look for a place close by just because of the sentiment.

I haven't been there yet. I would say maybe go someplace new and go to Monticello for an anniversary trip? I'm all about exploring Smiley smile

The Omni Homestead is a beautiful resort two hours west of Charlottesville. We'll be staying there for a mini-moon in between my residency interviews; there's plenty to do there! My parents went to Lansdowne for their 25th anniversary and had a wonderful time.

We've also stayed at Steele Tavern Manor, a wine themed B&B in Staunton, a lovely place. RockBridge Vineyards is nearby, offers extensive free tastings, and deliciously frugal wines.

Barboursville is an amazing winery! For $7 you get to try 18 wines, all are fairly reasonably priced. They have a restaurant and often have live music. I was there two weeks ago after hiking and had a wonderful time.

Best of luck with your search!

@Michelle I was just looking at details for the Omni Homestead, too! I wondered what people's experiences were with it.

Loved the Omni over winter. We went skiing (ok, it's a bunny hill) tubing, to the hot springs, dancing. But there's only one good restaurant besides the hotel

I got a bed and breakfast at smith mountain lake. For a couple nights then our honey moon is going to be in June.

The BB is simple. Not to expensive

Might be farther than what you're looking for, but we did our mini-moon in Frederick, MD- stayed at an awesome B&B called 10 Clarke Place.

    The Homestead is beautiful.

There is also Mountain Lake Lodge in Pembroke, where Dirty Dancing was filmed.

ETA: The Greenbrier in West Virginia is also beautiful, and I believe is only about a 2.5 - 3 hour drive from central VA

We are doing our mini moon at Salamander. We fell in love with it (we were already huge middleburg fans and I am a horse fanatic). We wanted to do our wedding there but it was too expensive. You really cant go wrong with anywhere in Middleburg.

I also agree with the Salamander. It’s really beautiful. Anything in Loudoun County is going to be more on the expensive side, but western LoCo is much prettier and quieter compared to the eastern side of the county.

I grew up in Loudoun, but I now live in Florida. It’s making me miss my home talking about it.
