Short bridesmaid dresses in November?

Hilery, on October 17, 2013 at 12:59 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

It seems cruel but, I really want my girls to wear short dresses.

I don't want them to spend money on a dress that they will never wear again, and I've never seen any of my girls wear a long dress.

It's an indoor/outdoor reception with an outdoor 6pm ceremony, on the water.

Novembers in Texas are iffy when it comes to weather, however, there's usually a nice front that comes through bringing the temp down to the mid-low 50's.

I've thought about switching out one of their gifts and getting them all matching blazers to wear after the ceremony so they don't completely freeze. Is that okay, or should I reevaluate the dress situation and consider doing long dresses?

They could always wear tights right? Maybe consider renting heaters for the outdoor area you are going to use, then all of your party and guests will be warmer if the weather is too cold.

How long is your ceremony going to be? If it's a short 15-20 minute ceremony, I think they will survive. They'll probably be chilly, but it won't last long. What do you mean by indoor/outdoor reception? If they will be outside for the reception, too, I think you will all be cold!

I think you should re-evaluate having your wedding outside in 50 degree temperatures to be honest. If you take care of your bridesmaids, what are your guests going to do?

The venue is indoor/outdoor. There is an outside deck that goes out over the water. The reception will be set up inside but, the ceremony outside on the deck. The ceremony will be extremely short. During the day it will probably be in the 60's but, At night it can get cold. That's the part I'm worried about. I mean, they can choose not to go outside but, if they want to, I don't want them to be cold.

I think you should be okay - just think of NYE dresses that are all short! If most of them only wear short dresses I think you are being very considerate for taking that into consideration :0)

Bee J, I guess we could do heaters! FFIL has a bunch of the tall ones that stand up, at his restaurant. We could ask to borrow them. I didn't even think of that.

After your description of the venue, I think you'll be fine! I do like bee's idea of renting heaters, just in case. Something to ask your venue about...

I may still get them the matching blazers, though. That way they have a cute outfit to wear again!

No but, we did consider it.

However, we wanted our ceremony outside and their deck only holds 150 for an outdoor ceremony.

My sister is getting married this November in MA and are wearing short dresses! It will probably be really cold when we take pictures outside, but hopefully we get a warmer day!

Yeah Hilery, that's the only reason why we didn't go with them, its a nice and intimate venue tho. But hopefully the outdoor heaters will do the trick, even if its for a short while. Good luck to you hun.

I'm having short dresses for my wedding next month. It will mostly be inside, but we are taking pictures outside. I got the all matching scarfs/shawls. They should be alright. Matching blazers sound adorable! I think they should be fine.

I was a BM in a wedding last March, high was 50. We didn't enjoy it, but we sucked it up for the bride. Only problem in we were freezing and didn't get many group pics.

Honestly? If you're having an outdoor reception, and you're requiring that your bridesmaids wear a specific dress, then I think you should either let them pick either short or long dresses, OR try to find ways to make sure they don't get cold.

My two bridesmaids have asked me what kind of dress they should wear (long or short), and I think we're going with short so they can pick something they'll wear again AND because it's a semi-formal (not formal) event. But the whole wedding minus maybe pictures is indoors, so ...

    I would reconsider.

Chances are even if a bridesmaid dress was short, I would never wear it again. I think its best that you not base your bridesmaid dress choice off of whether or not you think they will wear it again.

My BM's are all wearing short dresses. Depending on the area, it should be fine. If the ceremony is outside during the day, I'm sure the temp will be fine. Then at night, they can bring a sweater. As long as they are sweater free for the ceremony and photos, then they can put whatever coat on after! Smiley smile
