Shoes too informal?

Gretchen, on September 21, 2021 at 11:25 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

Hi all!

We are in the midst of planning a June 2022 wedding. I've purchased my dress and am on the hunt for shoes. The wedding will be on grass so I need a block heel and I'm looking to keep the height in the 2"-2 1/2" range.

The goal for the wedding is elegant but relaxed (sailcloth tent with lots of lights at my parents' farmhouse) and I'm hoping to find shoes that aren't too fussy but that don't look out of place, and ideally ones I'd be able to wear again!

I currently have my eye on a pair from Frye:

https://www.thefryecompany.com/products/brielle-back-zip-3474764-74764-white?variant=37915163295935&flow_country=USA&gclid=CjwKCAjwhaaKBhBcEiwA8acsHJ1Au0OoZOf-md0Qr3n3mqENCLkhemxDhs9kdNwpvJiYKwUUAH7BPBoC_qMQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

They are very me and I could certainly wear them again with a sundress, etc., but am a bit worried that the wooden block heel is too casual. Thoughts?

Dress below for reference!

I think they are very pretty and with a long dress you really won't be able to see your shoes. I had a very formal wedding, but I wore white converses as they are my favorite kind of shoe and I wanted to be comfortable. No one knew what was on my feet because you couldn't see my shoes because my dress was long.

I think they will be fine, your dress is pretty long!

No one will see them since you'll be wearing a long dress. Even with a shorter dress, no one will remeber what your shoes looked like, guests will only look at your dress and your face. Don't worry about that.

It sounds like you'll be confortable and confident wearing them so ... go for it.

Pick what you want and what makes you happy and comfortable and stop worrying about what others may think, the same way you won't care what they will possibly think about your hair, your bouquet and veil if you're wearing one.

Are you worried that other people won't be happy with your shoes or are you worried that you won't be happy with your shoes? If you're worried about other people, don't. If you're worried about you, then make sure you're happy.

I suspect the thing that bothers you most about the shoe is the wood sole, which will contrast with the dress. No one will notice or care about this, but you'll know it's there, and if it's really bothering you, that' something to consider.

You may have better luck finding the perfect shoes closer to your wedding date, when the new summer season becomes available. A lot of shoe companies had supply issues this year and failed to introduce full summer lines, or put their emphasis into casual shoes at the expense of dressy ones. Since next year is looking like a record year for weddings, you may see more options starting in the spring.

But real talk, you look totally bangin' in that dress and no one is going to notice your shoes when they are distracted by your decolletage and tiny waist.

Agreed with the others - no one will really be able to see your shoes anyway, so wear whatever you want! I think they'd look good with your dress, too - I saw a similar pair in teal that I LOVED but ended up not getting but only because I'm already taller than H and didn't want to tower over him too much lol

I value comfort and function over most things. Also super into being able to wear your wedding shoes more than once. I think they are fine and they look comfortable. You're dress is so pretty

Thanks all! I'm gonna do it- more than anything I dont want to buy uncomfortable shoes that I won't ever wear again and Fryes have always been good to me in the past!

I completely agree with this! Your dress is long so you won't even see the shoes, but I know that if it was me, I'd know the wooden heel was there, and if that bothered me, it would be enough that I wouldn't choose those shoes.

Personally I think the shoes are cute and look super comfy, but I don't think they match the vibe of the dress, and if you particularly wanted pictures of you lifting the hem of your skirt or putting your shoes on and don't like that heel or don't think you'll like the look of those two elements together, then perhaps consider another pair.

    Otherwise, get them!
