Shoes and Ties

Leslie, on January 18, 2020 at 9:51 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
My fiancé and his 2 groomsman are wearing dark blue suits. Our colors are shades of blue and purple (it’s a palette we saw called “Stroke of Midnight”). Navy, light blue, lavender, eggplant, and a purple wine. The bridesmaids are wearing the purple wine color.

Trying to figure out what color shoes/belt the guys should wear. My fiancé is thinking dark brown. Thoughts?
For the ties, I’m thinking my fiancé will wear Shoes and Ties 1
white/ivory (to stand out and match my dress) and for the groomsmen I’m debating between purple wine ( to match the girls) OR blue to be more neutral and not as matchy matchy.
Thoughts? I’m terrible with men’s fashion!

I am more of the navy=brown philosophy. I sometimes think navy & black looks very mismatched because of the closeness in shade. BUT my FH would disagree because he thinks black goes with everything. My suggestion, try on the ensemble & see for yourself!

Brown for shoes and belt for sure. Black with navy is weird.

For ties I like white but if he wears a white shirt with the white tie it won't stand out so keep that in mind. Maybe have your FH in blue tie and the groomsmen in the purple wine color?

Navy goes with brown for belts and shoes. As others have mentioned, black with navy is weird! Granted I have heard in fashion that both are technically neutrals and can be put together, but the standard is brown belt and shoes with a blue or navy suit. My FH would wear by this, as would his sister, who got her Master's degree at FIT!

Also, brown shoes with brown soles. I don't know why but some companies are making men's shoes with brown leather uppers and black soles and it just doesn't look right!

I'd take your FH to a tux shop and have him try them on in person. It's so hard to visualize this kind of thing without seeing it in person!

I agree with brown shoes, but like a cognac color. If he wears a white shirt, then a white tie will blend and you won’t notice it as well. And ivory tie on a white shirt might look dirty in photos. I would say light grey or silver would look nice, and then the GM could wear the mulberry or sangria. It will pop nicely! Or the ice blue, if you want a subtle look.
