Shoe Angst

Bridget, on October 22, 2019 at 5:09 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

Hi, all.

No idea why shoe selection has been so difficult...Dress was easy, venue--easy, music and menu...pretty easy. Shoes? No so much. Everyone chimes in about bridal shoes: "comfortable"; "reasonably priced", etc. I thought it would be fun to buy designer shoes for this day--there are a few good websites that offer discounted designer shoes--but the heel heights are often too much. There are several forum postings addressing this issue; I think I have read them all. Just thought I would make an appeal to any of you who have strong opinions on the matter...I have until November 1st to really figure this out, as the person altering my dress wants me to bring my "selected shoes" with me. Thanks in advance.

For me it was all about comfort. If your dress is long no one is going to see your shoes so it truly doesn’t matter.

I wanted to get something comfortable, cute, and white, as well as something I could wear again. So I got white lace sneakers Smiley smile

Comfort, seriously. I picked a wedge (still regretted it because I'm 4'10 and the dress was still hecka long, so I couldn't switch out shoes unless I wanted to stumble over myself) and it was comfortable for the most part... I would have liked to been able to change to tennis shoes or even crocs... something easier on my feet because they ended up bruising super bad before my honeymoon and just now are healing slightly at the worst point.

If your dress is long, no one will see your shoes or even care. If your shoes show out, then I understand something cute/designery but even still... have a back up for screaming feet. It's all cute and glam until you're hobbling around at your own wedding because you picked look over comfort or at least didn't plan for a comfort back up -- like me. Haha.

I will just be wearing some white flats with a little lace on them that are SUPER comfortable. My dress is already enough on its own, and it's long so the shoes won't be showing much anyways.

I am wanting to pick out a blue wedge type of shoe and everyone keeps telling me that’s silly because you don’t wear blue shoes with your wedding dress. But it’s something that’s super common these days! I still haven’t picked my shoes yet even though I have a few pairs I’m interested in.

I wanted to wear cowboy boots and I searched FOREVER for white "bridal" ones. I finally realized I just wanted to wear my black cowboy boots my father gifted me for my college graduation. They were comfy but I had to stretch them to get there. Honestly, no one saw my shoes except for the few pictures the photographer took of them. Have you looked into block heels, wedges, or flats? I understand the stiletto heel thing for sure, those are hard for me to walk in unless they are SUPER broken in and I'm having great balance that day haha! I think comfort is important but you still want them to be cute. My husband is also 1'3" taller than me, so I wanted more height (not that cowboy boots give a ton of height, maybe 2 inches more).

I appreciate your thoughtful replies, ladies! Seems the prevailing message is: COMFORT! Any particular sites/brands you like? (Besides Nordstrom Rack.)

I went for comfort 100% because it’s a long day. I got married on the beach in my bare feet then wore block heels for everything else. Super comfortable and got them in nude and have worn them again already. Here they are in white

Daughter's primary concern was comfort and secondary was that since there is only about 1" different in hers and SIL's height (and she's nearly 6' tall) there was no way she wanted any kind of heels. Whenever possible her "go to" shoes are Converse, so it made sense for her to buy a pair in her primary wedding color. We took them to a local shop that makes custom t-shirts, and they were able to customize them with her new name on the outside of one shoe and the wedding date on the other. They were absolutely adorable, and very much her. Were they unconventional? YES! But, with her very formal a-line ballgown, the ONLY time they showed all day were when she lifted her skirt slightly as she and FOB came down the four steps to start their walk down the aisle. She was happy and comfortable, and a dancing fool all night, so for her, they were the perfect choice.

I really wanted to wear high heels but after a lot of thought and knowing comfort would be extremely important I found these lavender metallic Toms. My dress is floor length so no one will see but even if they do, lavender is one of my colours!

If you really want a pair of nice designer heels, maybe find shorter heels or wedges? Or, maybe buy a second pair of shoes (flats or sandals) to change into during the reception?

I had a hard time finding the right shoes. I had a style in mind, but it took so long to find what I was looking for! I ended up buying these Betsey Johnson kitten heels from her blue collection at Dillards:

Not sure the style you're looking for, but she also has really pretty flats and other pumps that are just as sparkly: https://betseyjohnson.com/collections/betsey-blue?page=1 !!! Good luck Smiley smile

I recently bought these on sale and they're amazing! I knew my feet would die in heels but I knew I didn't want flats either so I settle on these cute kitten heels! My dress has a slight blush undertone so it'll match perfectly! https://www.badgleymischka.com/fianna-embellished-dorsay-kitten-heel/
