Shipping Groomsmen Proposal?

MrsD, on May 23, 2018 at 3:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

Any advice on shipping proposal boxes? Or what kind of box to put them in? The boxes will have an 8 oz glass coke bottle, a small whiskey bottle, a card, a clothing measuring tape (ordering suits online), and a chart on where to measure themselves. We have to ship 5 of them (out of 10) so I'm wondering if a cardboard box with bubble wrap will be enough?

There's an open bar hahaha!!! That's a great card!!! Make sure nothing really moves in the box when wrapped with bubble wrap and I would think you'd be ok (I'd probably wrap one separately drop it a couple times to test the theory)

The best bet would probably be a USPS/FedEx/UPS box with lots of tissue paper and bubble wrap. I mailed a bottle of olive oil and a few bottles of wine to my dad one year and I thought I had plenty of bubble wrap, but the FedEx guy opened it and put even more. If you think you have enough - put more. If you go through FedEx or UPS, they usually double check your packages if you let them know they contain breakables. Cute idea!

That's a good idea! I didn't even think about a test one. I'll make sure to do that!

When I went to UPS to ship my bridesmaids proposal boxes, they told me I wasn't allowed to ship alcohol! The girl was nice and just put there wasn't any alcohol in there (each had a liquor shooter). Did you have that problem with the wine? Do you remember how much that box cost to ship?

Omg this is the best groomsmen proposal I have seen! So cute and funny!

But to answer your question... stock up on the bubble wrap! Add a few 'fragile' labels too.

That's true, I have heard alcohol is a no to ship, so maybe I just got super lucky. I've heard mixed things about shipping hard liquor and wine, so I honestly don't know. If you want, just get some USPS boxes (any box will work really) and bubble wrap the heck out of them and send them off! Smiley smile If you drop them off, they usually ask if anything in it is breakable, but they've never opened mine before. They just put "breakable" on the box. It was $26 to ship, but it weighed on the up and ups of 13 pounds haha.

That's not bad! I'm planning for about $20 per box anyway so I'm glad to hear your box was around the same weight and price.

I don't believe the USPS allows alcohol shipments and UPS requires an adult signature. Make sure you let them know what you are shipping.

That's what I think too! All the boxes are going to people over 21, so if we choose USPS or UPS, we might just say a glass coke bottle and forget to mention the whiskey bottle. There was no harm when I shipped the bridesmaids boxes and didn't tell them, the lady working even told me not to mention it, LOL!

I was going to comment also on the shipping alcohol but also to add that some states prohibit alcohol to be shipped into those states so make sure the state you are shipping to allows it.

I didn't know that, I'll have to check! I may just forget to tell them it has a little bit of whiskey in it, and just mention the coke bottle anyway.

I shipped my bridesmaids boxes with bottles of champagne, and candlefish candle (glass) and a lush bath bomb (no real problem with that breaking). This is how I packed them. First I filled the box about half way with foam peanuts so there wouldn’t be a lot of extra space. Then I put sever layers of tissue paper over the peanuts. Then I arranged the items on top of the tissue paper. Then several more layers of tissue paper. Then peanuts to fill up the rest of the box. To actually ship them I put the boxes inside a slightly larger box and filled the space in between with more peanuts. It’s seemed a little ridiculous but nothing broke and everything in the boxes stayed in place. I attached a pic that one of my bridesmaids sent me when she got it. Shipped from St Louis to San Francisco and held up just fine!

So cute! I like the box in a box idea, that may work the best and keep everything together!
