Shine wedding invitations

Karen, on August 3, 2018 at 3:56 PM Posted in Planning 0 12
Hi all,

Is anyone familiar with shine wedding invitations? I’ve been toying with some ideas for our 1/19/2019 wedding. For 100 invitations with envelopes, RSVP cards-with envelopes, return addressing, guest addressing and 100 large detail enclosures, it’s going to cost around $850. Does this sound reasonable? I will attach photos of what I’m going for.

To me, that is super overpriced, but everyone's budget is different.

I can get all of the same things from Vistaprint and printed addressed envelopes from Minted for around $200-$300... I opted to go with Minted for my invites and am still spending less than $300 for everything and I'm inviting 150 people/need 90 invitations suites. Minted also offers free addressing so I'm not paying extra to have my return address or the guest address printed onto the envelopes.

In my opinion paper products are one thing that you definitely want to look the best, because they set the tone for everything but I would not be comfortable spending over $800 on something that literally everyone will throw in the trash after the wedding.

Totally understand! I tried some out on minted and for the same thing, it would cost around $650. I wasn’t too crazy about their suites, though. I would like the invitation but then the RSVP card was too bulky. I didn’t realize wedding invitations would be so expensive! I’m not getting anything fancy (like letterpress) either.

Mine are custom designed and printed by a local Paper company. After address printing And splurging a little on colored envelopes it’s about $800 for me before postage. I’m ordering 100 total (only need 85 + extras so 100 is cheaper than 90 or 95.

I priced minted, shine, etc and they really are about the same.

The ones I priced out on minted, were cheaper than shine, but still over $650. I do prefer the look of shine and the quality, I do think it’s superior to minted. We don’t mind spending so much on invitations if the quality is there.

Our invites were 3 grand so I definitely think it sounds reasonable. I was the same and wasn’t super impressed with quality of any of the typical online invitation options.

I ordered sample invites from shine and I think they were nice, but I think once the recipient throws away the pretty envelope liner, vellum jacket, wax seal, ribbon, belly band, etc. that makes them gorgeous, it’s really just a plain white card with black text, especially if you’re not getting the letterpress. If that’s the look you’re going for then shine is great, but I agree that you can find nearly the same thing in minted for less. I ended up getting invitations from minted for about the same price but I was happier with the look. None of the online invitations blew me away but if you want to keep it under $1k that’s really your only option. I think $850 is reasonable for a suite of 100 invites as you described.

That makes the set 8.50 an invite. I've seen beautiful ones cheaper but i do believe this is in the ballpark pertaining to style, inserts, paper type from what i have seen online. I use companies where i can try to get a 30-50% discount. Also, make sure the invites are per household, not guest.

I would love letterpress, it’s just terribly expensive through shine, even minted, which were still up there in price.

Have you ever looked at Etsy for invitations?

Everyone has different expectations of quality. I've never heard of shine. But we were very pleased with the quality of minteds standards printing. We did get some extras and the cost was about $850 for invite, details card, rsvp card, belly band, and printed envelopes for 85.

Besides the envelope liner the sample in the example feels kind of basic to me. You may want to look to see if there is a carlson craft vendor near by. It could be cheaper. Especially if you're interested in a more classic look.
