So how many of you have actually used sheet cakes and how did it work out? where did you buy them from the same bakery?

Dianne, I understand what you mean, it takes a lot of talent and time to make an extraordinary cake. Some of us just have things that are higher on the list of things to worry about and spend money on. But to some brides the cake is the wedding.

My thing is - even if they notice that it was not the same cake, does anybody care? Maybe I am not that fussy but from I'm getting cake (or any goody for that matter) - I am good.

I have been to a few weddings recently and I don't know anyone who did NOT use the sheet cakes to serve the guests entirely and just carried home their wedding cake for themselves.

Ali W. you are right, to me, the food and cake is just as important or more important than anything, but being raised around good food, great parties and amazing weddings my entire life, and now being a bridal consulant, I can't imagine not going all out for the cake and I'd much rather have my altered second hand gown, and lots of DIY stuff Smiley smile FOOD is EVERYTHING in my family! I even had to remind my son that Squid couldn't be on the menu just because he wanted it!

We are having a small 2-tier cake to cut with cupcakes on a tower.

saving hundreds of dollars...and no worries about cutting, everyone will just grab a cupcake and keep partying!

I received one price quote for this so still need to get more, but the lady said it would cost around $200 to do a fake cake with just an area for us to cut so we could still do that. An all real cake would have cost us a little over $400 so you can see that right there, it's already little over $200 savings. The thing is she quoted me for some sheet cakes for the guests to eat and it was actually more expensive for the fake and sheets than an all real one!!! I was like whattt?

BUT she did mention that she doesn't normally do fake cakes so I think that could be why she made it more money because a fake cake and sheets is suppose to be cheaper. I plan to get other price quotes from other bakers as well, but if need be then I will just order fake cake from baker and get normal sheet cakes at Costco or Publix....

The thing is she quoted me on my cake @ $200 and she didn't even ask to see pictures of the cake I wanted so seriously, going to shop around!!

This is my next project - we are meeting w bakeries hopefully this week and when we come back from vaca. I keep saying a 2 tier cake and then sheet cake. I think it's going to depend on the cost of all of this -= bottom line. Maybe fake cake will be the way to go. Can anyone share their cost of their fake cake w sheet cake and their tier cake and sheet cake?? THANKS!!!!! What am i in for??

I work with many professional bakers, many are here as Vendors on WW. I was going to have a cake made for my office, and a FAKE CAKE ONLY 2" DEEP NOT EVEN A FULL ROUND AND 3 TIERS WAS GOING TO BE $300! Needless to say, I am waiting to get my business running more independantly, but I also have another baker who will make me a "dummy" cake in colors for my office and charge me $0 because I will be recommending her to brides. Either way, cakes are a lot of work.
