Sheet Cake how to display classy NOT tacky

Hello so I would love some ideas. I am having this amazingly delicious 2 layer zucchini cake with cream cheese frosting and tons of fresh fruit for our cake instead of a traditional wedding cake. We are going to get a couple rounds for the aesthetic aspect but I want to get sheet cakes for the large portion of the serving. I am just worried it would be way to hard to serve as a traditional wedding cake.

I am doing the dreaded "rustic elegant" wedding but it is perfect for me it is on a horse ranch that is owned by family friends. Everything is definitely more on the elegant side but I am so stuck on how I want to display this cake.

I have attached pictures of the cake. Should I just do the wedding cake and not do sheet cakes?

    Idk but that sounds so good. I love zucchini bread, so I'm assuming cake isn't much different.

    ETA you don't have to display the sheet cakes. You could have them precut and served that way.

    Most people don't display the sheet cakes. After you and your FH cut the cake, the caterer will generally take it to the back so that people don't realize (theoretically) that their cake is cut from a different one.

    However, people almost always know. Sheet cakes tend to just plain and boring. So unless it's the same type of cake, just not decorated, keep in mind guests will know they are getting the "cheaper" cake. Which may or may not matter.

    Can you just display that cake and have the sheet cake cut where no one will see it? We're having a smaller cake for "show" and the sheet cake will be cut in the kitchen. Our guests won't even know.

    Another vote for displaying that lovely cake and just leaving the sheet cake behind the scene. But really, if the sheet cake is pretty, nothing 'tacky' about having it out, too. Whether flat or round and stacked, cake is cake,

    PPs covered it pretty well - the sheet cakes should stay behind in the kitchen and only be brought out, already cut, once you and your FI cut the display cake.

    This cake sounds amazing!

    If you're really worried about aesthetic, which I wouldn't be in this situation, I have seen many-a upcoming trends where the table has a few individual cakes instead of one big stack. This also may not necessarily save you money - it's just another option.

    I agree with the other ladies. Maybe bring it out later if needed? Honestly, I wouldn't judge anyone for having part sheet cake. I'm going a small wedding myself, so I'm only having a very small wedding cake (no sheet cake required), but I can see it being more practical for a larger wedding.

    I'm not sure what you mean by the dreaded "rustic elegant". That's sort of what I'm doing for mine too. We're having a rustic wedding, not in a barn but in a sort of barn-esque hall (hard to describe). I think you should do what suits you two as a couple. Smiley smile

    We're having a small two layered wedding cake which we'll cut and eat at the wedding. The sheet cake we'll be cutting before hand and placing at the guests tables. No display, no fuss. We're keeping our cake for the night and our anniversary.

    Usually a small cutting cake is on display and the sheet cake is in the back.

    That's a beautiful cake.

    I agree with PP, leave the sheet cake in the back and understand that your guests will likely know that it's a different cake.

    Those cakes in the pictures with the fruit on top look so good and are so pretty! If there's a way to keep the sheet cakes behind the scenes, I would do that. Cutting and plating them in the kitchen would probably work best.

    We are doing a three tier cake, but it won't feed all of our guest so they are doing a sheet cake to cut in the kitchen the same flavor as our actual cake.

    @soon2bmrsb, there was a thread earlier about "rustic" weddings being over done and people not liking them..
