Shedding for the wedding: motivation tips!

Cecilia, on June 30, 2019 at 12:24 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 1 19
Hi everyone! What are some workout motivation tips that you would all like to share. I'm really struggling with that currently, you would think... A behavior analyst would have no problem following through with some behavior modification (going to the gym after work as planned) haha.

How did you make it fun?!
I use to workout without a problem, as I've gotten older it's not the same.

I have time to shed the pounds: Wedding date January 16, 2021. Goal is to loose 30 Ibs.

You have plenty of time!! All you basically have to do is eat better & healthy.. count your macros, lift some weights, stop eating out (flexible eating).. Motivation: I look at the type of dress I want to wear for my wedding, which is a 2 piece red dress, and I also follow a lot of girls on IG that give me motivation each day... when I don’t feel like working out or I want to eat bad I remember what they say on their pages and boom! Lol

Remember why you are doing this. When you feel like slacking, remember your why. Look at your dress.

Try doing a program that is between 6-12 weeks long. I find those programs provide enough challenge to keep me motivated.

Do some HIIT too, quick way if you are eating right, to see fast results and you don't have to spend an hour on a treadmill to get it. It's easy to change up the exercise moves you do in between sprints so it doesn't get boring.

I have found that recording all the food I eat using my fitness pal app to match. A certain calorie count has been the only thing that has helped me lose weight. If I start exercising a ton then I will start eating more in response (which is natural and a healthy response to expending more energy throughout the day). But I think the other motivation I always think about is that I’m eating a certain way (less in total or more veggies to be fuller longer) and that is only helping me not only lose weight but feel 100% better Than lots of heavy fried foods, alcohol, etc. the last thing that I would say is stress (and sleep) is your number one enemy when trying to lose weight. So if you can work in some way to not reduce your stressors but improve the way you think about those stressors then hopefully that will put you in the right direction towards your goal weight. Good luck!!! You’ll do great. And remember - there are NO BAD FOODS - it’s your HABITS overall that will carry you forward.

ALSO, I i use the Nike run club and Nike training club app - all the workouts are preplanned and videos are shown while I workout on how to do it so I don’t have to think about it. I HATE working out if I have to think about what I’m doing for each exercise. But with the app they do all the thinking for you. YOu can put in your goal and they willing customize it for you. And adapt your plan through the program if your plans or goals change . It’s truly my only motivation to workout anymore

-Playlist of your favorite workout songs.
    - myfitnesspal for counting calories.
-increase veggie and fruit intake (if you're picky like me, drink them in a smoothie with a little skim/almond milk and honey!)
-write motivational quotes around places in your house you see often/your car/office, etc.
-you can sign up for daily quotes to be sent to your phone! Set it for a time a day when you'd be getting ready to workout.
-tell FH to give you a little push every so often! Of it's been a few days since you worked out, he should encourage you to get to it!
-find someone to workout with! The best way to stay motivated is to have someone by your side the entire way to motivate you!
-pinterest! Look up different workouts to do, save an exercise board and change your workouts around daily!

Have of your weight loss goal sounds like retention (water weight). As a trainer my first suggestion to lose bloat is to eliminate all preservatives including carbonation. These foods and drinks tend to slow down digestion allowing your body to absorb and retain all the sodium and etc that comes with them. My second suggestion would be to increase water. Try to flush all the stored stuff out.

I also believe HIIT style training is most effective to burn and build lean muscle. (Heart rate up and down... mixing in a bit of cardio, then weights, back and forth for a solid 35 mins) there are tons of examples of these on pinterest if you search quick hiit workouts. No need to pay a ton of money to a gym yet until you get your routine worked out.

Give yourself bench Mark's. 3 weeks at a time. Example :
First 3 weeks - no carbonation, no packaged food, increase water, begin figuring out workout schedule
2nd 3 weeks - have solid workout schedule 4-5 days a week. Maintain eating routine. Start to decrease portion sizes for food.
3rd 3 weeks - repeat all above and add food schedule (trying to schedule largest meal within 90 mins post workout... smaller meals further from workouts)
4th 3 weeks - add in a new workout once a week (long run, swim, hike, cycling class)....

And I always say, give yourself a fun day (cheat day) at the end of each of those 3 week benchmarks... next thing you know you'll be lean confident with healthy repeatable habits.

    You got this girl!

P.s. 30 lbs is not a ton to lose. You are beautiful with those or without those 30lbs. Focus more on feeling better and more healthy /confident less on the number.

It takes about 4 weeks to form or break a habit. Weight loss and fitness require breaking bad eating habits and starting new ones.

The most important time to stick with it is when you don't feel like it the most.

Lifting weights will build muscle. More muscle burns calories faster. If you enjoy food, like myself, you're going to want to eat and enjoy your food. I suggest keto for quick results. Paleo for slower and more long term results. And, to start, immediately cut out all processed sugars. Get the withdrawal symptoms out of the way. Then cut out the garbage carbs like white breads.

I'm into fitness and nutrition heavily for over 20 years and used to be a personal trainer. You have to want it. It is not easy. It will be a struggle at times. A slip up is just that. Don't dwell on it. Don't let a cheat meal become a cheat month, etc.

I agree with the point as you have ample of time in your hand, so one of the best thing that you can go for doing regular exercise which helps you to maintain yourself. Always eat a healthy diet like have egg, milk, pulses in the morning.

Weight loss is all about mindset. When we feel good about what we are doing we will do better at it. So here’s two tips!
1.) Find your why, and picture it in your mind. Before (and during your workout if needed) take a moment to close your eyes and picture what you want to look like walking down the isle. Let that motivate you to work for YOU!
2.) Reward yourself! Every five pounds or so, have a reward in mind. And let them get progressively better! Just try to avoid food. For example:
5lbs - candle from the store and time alone reading a book
10lbs - spa night ft. face mask and bath bomb
15lbs - movie night in with the fiancé
20lbs - that one accessory you’ve been eyeing for a while now.
25lbs - a night out with your good friends
30lbs - spa weekend with the girls.
This system really helps motivate in a fun way! My goal is 60lbs by my June 12, 2021 wedding and my end prize is my father buying me a puppy! Have fun setting rewards and working out to lose weight becomes a much more rewarding process.
