She Feels Terrible

Stacey, on July 1, 2020 at 11:32 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

My future sister-in-law called yesterday to inform us that she injured her leg and she is going to be on crutches for our wedding. She feels terrible, but I assured it is totally fine. She is one of my bridesmaids. All of the bridesmaids are supposed to be walking down the aisle with the groomsmen. We were going to have them link arms, but since she will have crutches that won't be possible. Should I have the groomsman she is paired with her just walk right next to her or is there some other option I am not thinking of. Also, our ceremony is supposed to be about thirty minutes and I think that's a long time for her to stand up with us on crutches. Should I have her sit down after she walks down the aisle? Any advice would be great.

I would have her sit down after she walks up there. I think that’s too long for her to stand up with crutches in terms of comfort

Yeah, I would just have them walk down next to each other. Regarding the chair, I would ask her what she wants. Maybe just have a chair reserved for her in the front row that she can sit down when she wants to.

I'm worried she will feel left out or like we are drawing attention to her because she would be the only one in the wedding party sitting. I thought maybe having everyone, but the maid of honor and best man sit.

Thanks! I will definitely try to talk to her, but she is very stubborn.

I mean, it's her body. All you can do is have a chair open for her and encourage her to use it if/when she wants to sit and take a break. If she wants to tough it out, that's on her 🤷‍♀️.

I agree to offer her a chair and assure her that her comfort is more important to you than appearance. I wouldn't worry at all about her not being able to link arms or being the only one sitting.

I would ask her about her comfort level standing or sitting. For me I have been on crutches twice, and one of the times I would have had no problem standing all day and the other 5 minutes was about all I could do.

As for walking down the aisle, yes I would just have him walk beside her. If they know each other or are comfortable with it, he could put his hand on her upper back as they go down the aisle.
