I want to use a more secure and private messaging app for sharing wedding photos, as many apps, including WhatsApp, have been known to release data.

Google Drive, maybe?
My fiance is a software developer so he built a website for us, which I had the option to password protect. If you have any family/friends you can utilize to whip up a Wordpress template, that might be worth looking into. Custom domains usually cost about $10/year, a pittance for private, access-based storage.
