Shapewear

WeAreOne0822, on June 9, 2015 at 10:28 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

How many of you are wearing it? How many of you wore it? I wasn't planning on it but it wouldn't hurt to wear some under my dress to smooth things out. Any recommendations and advice on shapewear that does the job and is comfy? Thanks all!

I wear spanx pretty frequently (I hate the ones with the legs/shorts though), but the selling point of the ballgown was that it would hide the tummy lol

I have a ball gown, the bodice is very structured and fitted so I don't think I will bother with shape wear.

ETA: @weare1- what kind of dress do you have? I think that makes a difference.

I wore the bodysuit spanex and LOVED it. I kept it clasped between the legs and moved it and my panties just to the side to use the bathroom. It was very comfortable and never noticed it. It made a huge difference and I was able to use the bathroom myself by going front in.

I purchased at Dillards for $70

I'm actually wearing one that goes up right under my boobs. I had one before that just hit right at my waist but I had the problem of it rolling both up my legs and down from my waist. This one is a little more stiff but I also spent a little more to get one that won't roll when I move around. It cost $60. I believe it's a maidenform.

You look amazing in the dress! IMO you don't need shape ware, but if you would be more comfortable in it I would look into the bodysuit. I have the shorts that come up under my boobs and a dress formed one (looks like a slip) both give me issues, the bodysuit never gave me issues..I assume the would make them strapless.

I was going to wear spanx or something so my thighs wouldn't rub together. I didn't need to wear anything under my dress and ended up not even wearing the spanx. I just put on some baby powder and called it a day. Everything went fine.

Pretty dress! I have a pair of spanx but hoping to lose enough weight that I don't need them.

I got thong shapewear. I didn't need much tucked, just to smooth things out. It went right up to my bra. I loved it. I agree though, your dress looks great on you as is

I have a pair of the thigh ones that go up to my waist. I hate them though! The waist always rolls down and I feel it makes everything look less flattering than if I go without. If anything, I would get bodysuit. I agree with everyone else though...you look stunning in that dress!!

You look stunning in your dress. I'm not wearing shape wear and a little bigger of a woman but with the ballgown style I have its just not necessary.

I haven't worn shapewear since I was a teenager. It always gave me horrible stomach cramps.

I absolutely LOVE your dress and I think you look amazing in it as is! As far as shapewear goes I think it is totally up to you and whether or not you feel most comfortable and beautiful with it on underneath. I know from personal experience I didn't love wearing spanx underneath my skirts or dresses because I was constantly worrying about it showing and it would end up just making me more uncomfortable. Again though, that dress is stunning on you so whatever you choose to do will end up working out!

I also think you dress is beautiful without any shape wear but here is what I used.

I usually wear the Spanx that goes from under my bra line down to my thighs and I love that, but for my wedding I was not going to be able to pull it down to use the restroom since my dress was a corset back.

What I bought was from Alfred Angelo, it was $69 and it is a "control" slip. It started higher than my belly button (did not produce a line) I hemmed it to my knees so it was shorter and I could walk easier in it. This held in my tummy and smoothed my hips for a good line. I then wore some jockey breathable underwear (skimmies) that goes half way down my leg (to prevent thigh rubbing) and could easily pull that down to use the bathroom.

A bit of TMI but hope this helps as I have about the same shape as you :o)

    Edited for spelling

I bought spanx a while back, but never wear it since it's just so uncomfortable. I wear jockey skimmies under every dress to prevent chaffing, they are not necessary shaping, but definitely a lifesaver for me.

I'm wearing a corset. My dress doesn't have tummy control.

Date Twin! I was just thinking about this too. I have wore Spanx higher power (the shorts that go up to the bra line), and they shorts have rolled up. My dress has a corset... so it's gonna suck me in enough that I dont need to worry about belly... but August ... I'm just worried that if its a hot or humid day my thighs will be rubbing against each other and annoying me. I might look for just shorts. I've used baby power or deodorant in the past so it's always an option.

You look beautiful! No shapewear needed!

FWIW, I used "loose" shapewear as "wicking" underwear because my legs/butt got really sweaty underneath my dress when I went in for a fitting. It was really comfortable.

I bought a waist shaper that goes from hips to just under boobs. But when I tried it on with my dress, it added too much thickness and didn't really suck anything in. The dress actually looks better with nothing under. Just getting cups added.

I did buy Jockey skimmies and they are a god-sent for my thick thighs. I've worn them under dresses/skirts a few times and they don't ride up the leg or roll down the belly. I'm trying them under my dress at my next fitting.
