Shapewear question

Chantel W, on February 9, 2017 at 10:05 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

I'm getting married next Friday (2-17-17), and I'm a bigger woman, considering buying Spanx to wear under my gown. Has anyone had any experience with these? Do they work as well as I've read they do?

I've been shopping like crazy for shapewear and the best/most affordable has been Maiden Form from Kohls. It depends if you want full coverage, just undies that come over stomach or bust coverage too. It's slowly becom9ng my biggest headache

I would just go for normal spanks! I tried on some long lines in a bridal store and it was awful! Sure my waist looked nice but it created rolls of back fat to a dimension I hadn't seen before and my boobs were up to my collar bones! Basically my midsection was all sucked in until you got to the top where I was pouring out like a freshly popped can of biscuits.

Spanx, and other shapewear garments come in a variety of styles, ranging from just smoothing to seriously suck it in, and covering everything from just your booty to from shoulder to knee.

Since you are short on time I would decide which part of you would like to emphasize (or de-emphasize) to help you pick the silhouette of shapewear you want (do you want something that covers your entire torso, or just from the waist down?), and then go to department stores and see what kind of shapewear you can find that fits the bill.

Kohls, target, macys, nordstrom and JC penny are ones that come to mind.

Depending on your gown type, I would suggest at least something with shorts, because I have heard many ladies say that their thighs rubbing together in a fitted gown can be uncomfortable. If you are wearing a ballgown, that is less of an issue, but it is really just what you feel comfortable in.

If you are looking for more "industrial" shapewear (corsets, girdles, long-lines etc) I would go to a lingerie store and see what the fitting specialists recommend. Look for a place that specializes in "vintage" inspired lingerie, as they are more likely to carry what you are looking for.

    Hope that helps!

My favorite Spanx are their "Higher Power" line...they smooth everything out, but aren't so constricting that they are uncomfortable. Since your wedding is so close, I would be careful about buying shapewear at this point. If your alterations have already been finished, you need to talk to your seamstress since your shapewear/undergarments can significantly change how your dress fits on you.

Whatever you do, test them out before the big day and wear them all day! I noticed that I'll feel fine for several hours wearing my spanx but all of a sudden I'll get stomach cramping and get diarrhea (sorry, TMI) because of the tight spanx! I had to leave my brother's wedding and another event early because of it. I think I got them in a medium when I should have gotten a large.

I ordered this from lane bryant. I got a size large and it fits great.... http://www.lanebryant.com/cacique-plus-size-sexy-bras-intimate-apparel/shapewear/perfect-waist-cincher-by-squeem/4043c4049p229412/index.pro

i also am debating wearing a slip that i ordered from davids bridal. on that slip, the very top part of it is spandex and does a great job holding everything in place.

It's it's low back dress? Where you bought the dress they should of helped with shapewear ideas. Especially for fittings if you have them. I found this shaper on amazon and I love it cause of the ultra low back.

I'm a thicker size and prefer the body suits . Some strapless bras give me a reverse muffin top.
