Shapewear for satin dress

Darah, on November 25, 2018 at 11:31 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

I have a problem with my shapewear. I'm wearing a satin dress, so it's very form fitting. The only issue is that it sort of shows my stomach, so I figured I would buy some Spanx. The downside of the Spanx is that the shorts are noticeable under my dress. There are pictures down below so you guys can see what I mean without the Spanx. It looks worse from the front than the side, but still is causing me to be a bit self conscious.

Does anybody have any suggestions for what shapewear wouldn't cause lines on my thighs or slide down from my waist? I was wondering if a pair of high waisted leggings or something like that would be a decent option, but I've never heard of anybody trying that.

You look absolutely gorgeous in your wedding dress. I know that you think you need it but honestly you look great without the shapewear.

Did they have any shapewear at the bridal shop? My consultant recommended great shapewear at my appointment.

Maybe you can try one of the spanx body suits?

Gorgeous dress. I agree you don’t “need” any shapewear but find something that is comfortable and makes you feel beautiful.

I have tried the ones above, which I thought would work well considering the price. But they just keep rolling up around my thighs, and it's very obvious in my dress. It isn't incorrect sizing, which I was originally afraid of. But now I'm struggling to find a good substitute.

As you move and sit throughout your wedding I’d be worried of the legs and waistband rolling and being even more obvious. If you did a bodysuit I’d have the legs go to your knees. I’m also sure you’d look great without spanx!

I wore something like these under my crepe gown that showed everything without shapewear. They’re not sexy, but you won’t have any weird lines in the wrong places!

Like pp mentioned, you maybe can try spanx that’s longer and don’t stop above the knee. The body suit options tend to be a little smoother. Because with the shorts, they will show where they stop in the stomach area and they tend to roll down sometimes.

I have this same problem! Mine is exacerbated by the fact that my dress has a low back so I can't really wear any high waisted spanx either. AND even the waist bands tend to show through and make it obvious that I'm wearing them. I am just trying to exercise a little more than normal and tone up so hopefully I can just wear my dress without anything underneath.

That being said, I really don't think you need spanx or anything for that matter under your dress! You look great! But I understand the need to feel that everything is "smoothed out." I would just keep trying different options and hope that you find one that works. I have already purchased three different spanx and haven't liked one of them. But in my experience you can't really tell if one will work with your dress until you try it on with your dress.

Hi Darah! I agree, you look absolutely stunning in your dress! Smiley heart

The others give some great recommendations here if you are looking for some shape wear. High waisted options that come further down your thighs, where the fabric falls away from your legs and won't be visible, is a great idea!

Have you tried a shapewear slip? It’s shaped like a dress, so no lines where the seams are! I got one at Kohl’s.

Hey Suzanne! Do you remember what these were called? I’m having the same issue where the shapewear shows on my thighs.

Hi! I have a crepe gown also, and am looking for shapewear-- did this smooth everything out to your liking? What brand did you go with?

    Thanks so much!

Yes! I got the exact one I posted. It's by Miracle Suit. The other I bought that I liked better was by Rago and was also a pant liner. Super control, but you could see it under the dress.

I used to be very heavy and lost 120 lbs, so I have a lot of extra skin and a droopy belly. It definitely held me in and smoothed me out, but I always want more control. Without a tummy tuck, I'll always have a little bump on the lower belly area. It was comfortable and did its job. I've attached a few pics. Best of luck!
