Shapewear for dress shopping?

I was just reading an article about things people wish they had known/done before going shopping for their dress. One girl said she wished she brought shapewear with her. Did anyone do this when shopping for their dress? I guess I didn't think it was necessary just yet because the samples aren't...

I was just reading an article about things people wish they had known/done before going shopping for their dress. One girl said she wished she brought shapewear with her. Did anyone do this when shopping for their dress? I guess I didn't think it was necessary just yet because the samples aren't going to fit me perfectly anyway...I was just going to go in my nude strapless bra and seamless nude undies.

Now I'm overthinking it and not sure if I should get some Spanx or something before my first shopping experience next week? Help please! Share your experiences with me!

I would say your plan is perfect. I bought some shapewear undies before, wore them shopping and had to buy a second pair to fit with the dress I purchased. They can be pretty spendy, so if you're on a budget, wait. I do agree with you that the nude color is a great idea. I have seen many photos of ladies trying on dresses with dark undergarments and i giggle a little.

Oh my gosh you know the ones I wore are so old I don't even remember. Maybe Kohls? I'm buying a brand new pair for the wedding itself but I've been looking at getting name brand for that

I brought shapewear to the first shop and I felt better wearing it because the saleswoman helped me put on each dress. I would have felt uncomfortable in a bra and thong so having a boustierre and spanx boyshorts really helped. The second place I forgot my shapewear! I felt uncomfortable trying dresses on nearly naked plus the dresses showed every pantyline and bulge.

Yes, you can buy a dress w/o shapewear but I highly recommend it!! I also recommend makeup and hair up/down to give you a more realistic picture of how your dress will look!

I did wear spanx and a strapless because I wanted some kind of inclination what I might look like in the dress when alterations were done, and it helped with confidence. I'm almost 6' tall, so I knew I wouldn't need hemming (and I didnt), and at DB the sizes generally work for street sizes. Then again, I was also extra enough to do full hair and makeup so I had some kind of "vision" of what I'd actually look like before I said yes to a dress.

I didn't take any. the sample dresses are not going to fit you very good, so to me there was no point.
