Shapewear for a trumpet style dress?!?

S.W., on February 5, 2015 at 2:14 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

Hey ladies, I'm struggling to find shapewear for my dress. I want something that smooth's out my hips, bum and tummy (pooch) because as you can see my dress is pretty form fitting. I'm also worried about my thighs chafing so I've been trying to find some sort of tight shorts to act as a barrier. Every type of nude type shorts have been high waisted. Has anyone every used high waisted shapewear in the trumpet style dress?? Could you pee?? I'm worried I won’t be able to get high waisted shapewear down but the slip style shapewear I don't think I could wear shorts with....

On a side note has anyone had success with the high-waisted spanx that have a hole in the “gusset” to pee out of? To me that seems like a disaster waiting to happen….

I don't really wear skirts of dresses often so I feel a little lost.

I've seen a couple threads on shapewear but didn't really feel like I found an answer.

Thanks!!!

That dress is gorgeous. I have a few shape wear pieces that are full body (strapless bras that end above the knee) with a hole for peeing. I've never worn them with a wedding dress, but I have worn them on special occasions. It feels weird to pee like that, but it has never made a mess in my experience.

I'm wearing a trumpet style gown as well, so I'm interested in hearing what the other ladies have to say about this. I'm think I will wear something similar to what I have now, but maybe upgrade it a bit.

I love your dress, you look absolutely stunning! I am wearing a trumpet dress as well and started a discussion on shape wear but didn't go into detail like you did, so I'm curious to hear what will be said as well. I feel like the shape wear I chose can change the whole night for me, how comfortable I am and how I feel about my figure in the dress...so I want to make sure I find the right kind.

Did you get cups sown into the dress? That's another area I want to make sure looks good and I don't want to keep pulling the dress up all night.

I bought shapewear to wear under mine for the same exact reason. the BEST shapewear i found was from target for like $15. it's high waisted (goes all the way up under my boobs) and are little shorties.

i even ordered two different pairs of REAL spanx and returned them 'cuz they sucked compared to the cheap ones i bought at target. lol.

pretty sure these are the ones: http://www.target.com/p/maidenform-self-expressions-body-con-high-waist-boyshorts/-/A-14649091#prodSlot=_1_10

i know they're the same brand.

it looks like they also have some that have longer shorts:

i might actually order one of those to try because i'm worried about my thighs rubbing together also...

First off, LOVE your dress. Mine's a similar style so I've been wondering the same thing, specifically about the spanx and peeing, lol.

I'm basically just going to have to take off my whole dress to pee. it's the only way to do it. :/

First off thanks ladies!! It was a bridal show special.... the only style I swore I wouldn't buy was mermaid/trumpet/fit-n-flare.... welll this is what I walked out with because I started crying...

@Anna I think it may have been yours I saw, I can't remember.... I tend to overshare but I figure we all are ultimately looking for the same thing. I have to see still about cups.. I have cups and I'll talk to my seamstress about having them sown in. I've worn them before in bridesmaid dresses and never had to have them sown in because a well fitted dress seems to be able to keep them in place.

Hahaha @Jenna that's what I"m trying to avoid!! Also thanks for the suggestions I'm going to head to Target after work they're doing a liquidation sale as of today because they're leaving Canada. Unfortunately the Target in Canada is nothing close to the ones in the US.

I had a trumpet style dress. I didn't wear shapewear, but I also was terrified to pee, so I didn't in the dress, I just didn't drink a lot once it was on. I thought I had a better picture of the dress on my work computer. I guess not. It was also a corset, which in my opinion helped a lot.

The dress has boning but I'm having my seamstress put in a lace up back... I love the buttons but like the fit of lace-up and the flexibility if I change slightly between the last alteration and the wedding. I'm toying with the idea of no shapewear if I can't find something just right, I'll be fine because I'm not wearing shapewear in the picture it would just be nice...

I had my corset removed and put in a zipper... part of the reason was for bathroom visits. i plan on being really careful with my liquid intake, but if i do have to go... and get completely out of my dress to do it, which is how it's gonna have to go with shapewear lol... then at least it'll be a lot faster to get in and out of. having to undo and redo a corset each time... no way.

I got a shapewear from Macy's that only covers your whole waist, so no worries on the peeing issue. I plan on wearing thigh highs to avoid the thighs rubbing issue...

I got my flowergirl dresses on zulily. They OFTEN have really adorable, formal dresses for the little ladies, and they are about $30 or less. Smiley smile
