Shades of a different color bridesmaids dresses

Alexa, on January 5, 2021 at 1:49 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 25

Hey! I am wanting to do shades of blue bridemaids dresses but I am trying to figure out the best way to go about it! I picked 4 colors I like from Azazie, I am having 8 bridesmaids, do I do 2 girls per color? Or do I just allow them to pick blue dresses from anywhere? I am feeling so confused and don't know the best way to do about this. So if you have done this successfully before please let me know how!

I think the idea of sticking to the four colors you like from Azazie would be a better idea than just letting them all pick their own shades of blue from anywhere. When working with multiple shades, it’s best to make sure they coordinate well together.

I agree that if you just let them pick whatever from all different stores, it may look a bit weird. I think four colors is enough choice that everyone should be OK with at least one of the options. Or you could let them pick the color but they all have to be the same fabric.

I'm having my girls in Dusty Blue and Stormy from Azazie and I had them pick the dress they wanted (with a few guidelines on length and material) and rank the two colors as top choice. It worked really well and everyone is happy with their dress color.

If you want the colors to be consistent, order them from the same manufacturer. Azazie and Cocomelody have the same color charts that are interchangeable. They also have the same try on at home program.

Do not buy a dusty blue from Vendor A and expect the same shade from Vendors B and C. Every manufacturer, clothing or otherwise, has their own naming system. Even the same shade with different names will be different enough to look mismatched.

Make sure to swatches so you can see them in person before you decide.

I have 7 girls and did 3 shades of blue from Azazie, distributed 3/2/2. I sent them a spreadsheet and asked them to pick which color they wanted, first come, first served. The last girl wasn't the biggest fan of her color but I felt like it was the fairest way to do it.

Which ones did you pick? Maybe we're twins!

I was thinking this also! I just feel bad because at first I was just saying I just wanted them to wear a long, blue, chiffon dress because I didn't want to be that bride who asks bridesmaids to spend hundreds of $$ on a dress. But then the more I thought about it, that didn't make sense. Also, Azazie is already pretty reasonably priced - in my opinion.

I love this idea of ranking the colors instead of sending the colors out there and saying 1st come 1st serve!

I agree. If you let them choose their own dresses from anywhere, the colors may clash horribly, and there will likely be all different types of materials of dresses- it could end up looking sloppy and chaotic. I definitely don’t think allowing them to choose whichever dress they like on Azazie, within your specified colors, is being a bridezilla. Plus, I think it’s one of the more affordable sites to get dresses from; and they have the try on at home option, which is awesome.

We didn't do this for our wedding, but I would definitely have two girls in each color rather than letting them just pick any random blue dress. I have seen photos of it done both ways. I follow my wedding photographer on Facebook and one of the weddings the bride had the girls all wear the same style dress, but in different shades of purple. She had like three different purple tones that the girls worn. Our photographer also had another wedding where it looks like the girls just picked random pinkish color dresses from their closest and like there was no real thought behind it. In my opinion, it looks so disorganized and as I guest I would be more distracted by the outfits the bridesmaids wore than actually looking at the bride and groom. I've included photos from both weddings to give you an idea of how they looked.

For me personally, I would assign colors that you liked and picked out so that you know the exact color you are getting for the wedding. There won’t be any surprises because you know it will look good.
For me, I am having my bridesmaids get them from the same place so I know it will look good together.

There's still a chance that someone won't end up with her top color choice but hopefully everyone won't pick the same colors as their top 2!

I agree - I don’t like the pink at all!! I definitely would have been more strict on saying these colors, maxi length, and chiffon fabric.

I'm doing something similar - 3 bridesmaids in 3 different shades of blue from Azazie. I told them the 3 color options and had them send me their rankings from favorite-least favorite. I then assigned each of them a color from their rankings - everyone had the same first choice but at least no one ended up with their least favorite!

Yes!! I was a bridesmaids before and I did the free custom fit dress & it fit perfectly. It would be awesome for them to do that. I’m glad you don’t think it’s asking too much.
