sew-in bra or adhesive bra?

cindeelili89, on January 5, 2016 at 10:35 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Hello All!

I'm hoping I can get input on the bra situation for my wedding dress. It came in earlier than expected and I'm super excited to try it on again! I'm deciding if I should have the seamstress sew in a bra or I buy an adhesive bra.

1. I've heard mixed reviews about adhesive bra (i.e. they tend to fall off when you get sweaty) and I feel that it might make me look even more flat-chested. Unfortunately, I wasn't one of the lucky ones that was born with a nice, full chest..harhar Smiley smile

2. I've never wore dress with built-in bra so not sure if they will give me a bit of a "lift" or if there will end up being a huge gap in the front because of my flat chest.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated! If it helps, here is a link to my dress:

    Following.

I can tell u as someone that owns a sticky bra I do not enjoy wearing it. I got the one from Victoria secret and have worn it a few times and never liked it. It has stayed in place but I was looking for something with a little bit of a lift. No idea if sewn in cups do that or not.

Your seamstress should be able to give you guidance. I'm wearing a long line bra because well... My boobs need their own zip code. But, my best friend with a small chest had a push up bra sewn into her dress to give her more cleavage and a larger look in her strapless.

I personally would choose to have the bra sewn in because there is no way mine would work with an adhesive bra. But I agree with Miranda, talk to seamstress.

If you plan to dance, get a sewn in bra! Adhesives will get sweaty.

To me, I think the sewn in bra is the way to go. Based on previous experiences (regardless of the brand/quality) adhesives really didn't do much in terms of lift/support. They also don't do well with sweat - which I'm told will happen throughout the day in a wedding gown. I personally would rather have the sewn in so I know things are staying where they should be.

As a photographer, I have seen a couple of brides dealing with this same issue while they are getting ready.

Those that used self adhesive bras : they worked until the brides started hugging guests. Every bride was continuously pulling up her gown while dancing as well.

Those that used self adhesive tape : it was never strong enough to withstand the heavy seams of the dress. Also, the inside of those dresses were lined with a soft, silky fabric. Adhesive tape works great on BM dresses that have a very light, organza type of fabric. One roll per person!!!! The entire upper part of one of the outline/edge of a BM's dress was lined with tape.

Those that used a sewn in bra : the bra filled out the bust of the dress but the brides still had issues with the strapless gown sliding down. Self adhesive was added in addition and this did help.

Make shift solution for every bride : tighten the gown as much as possible at the waistline or just below the bustline from the back with anything they had available ... this included the following : a "belt" underneath the sash, HUGE safety pins hidden underneath the sash or pinned from the underside higher near the bustline, and one bride had her Mom sew the dress (once she was in it) perpendicular to the zipper (at the waist line and bustline).

You have to find the right adhesive bra. I have had several and only one has worked for me. It was some off brand from a prom shop. I tried Nordstrom and Victoria's Secret and they just weren't good. If you do go the adhesive route, I would go to a prom shop to see what they have.

Well sewn in bra > adhesive.

Any day. Get the internal bra if you can. It's moat better then a adhesive one. If it's not good enough you can a. Pad the shit of it or b. Double up adhesive + sewn in bra. No rule says you can't have both Smiley winking

As a previous VS employee let me tell you an insiders secret-- the adhesive bras stink after you've been sweaty in it. It's never a good idea when you plan on going to bed with someone immediately after taking it off. Smiley smile

Sew in for sure. Adhesive bras are just bad as your skin produces sweat and oil, you may find yourself readjusting all night long. I wore one once! It was fine at first, but as the night progressed I was so self conscious. I'm pretty sure my breasts looked lopsided by the end. Lol

I used a strapless long-line bra that I got from Alfred Angelo, and it definitely didn't move! It did provide a little lift for my non-existent chest, but I think having cups sewn in would have had the same effect.
