Settling a Discussion with my fh

Chelsea, on July 7, 2019 at 1:05 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 37
So we are newly engaged and in early planning. I honestly always thought about an evening wedding 5 pm or so with a dinner reception. I never even considered other times of day for us honestly. And my FH, I guess, was thinking the opposite, he was thinking a noon wedding. He apparently has never even been to an evening wedding. I was really suprised! I know weddings can happen at many different times of day but I personally think evening weddings are the most common. My FH disagrees and thinks mid-day weddings are the most common. What do you all think??? What time of day if your wedding going to be? What time of day do you think is the "most common"??
This is a just for fun convo. Curious what y'all think!!

Evening! I’ve only been to a few midday weddings. They can be nice too but I do think evening weddings are most common!

I've been to a lot of weddings that start in the late afternoon and move into the evening, usually ending around 10 pm.

Our wedding was from 4-10. I’ve only been to 2 afternoon weddings out of over 20 weddings I’ve attended.

So evening weddings are more common but for that reason afternoon weddings are always cheaper at venues.

I’ve been to a few weddings where the ceremony was in the afternoon but the receptions have always been early to late evening.

I think it really depends on the type of wedding. All of the more formal and more expensive weddings that I have been to have been in the evening. The more casual, do it yourself on a budget have been afternoon. Mine was at 11:30 am. Super small wedding with just 4 guests and we went to lunch afterwards.

The only mid-day wedding I've been to are the Catholic ceremonies with the large gap then even receptions. Most people then skip the ceremony.

Out ceremony will be at 5 then cocktail hour/reception immediate to follow. Evening reception is more formal.

I’ve never been to a day wedding. Wait, once. But I would love to attend a Sunday brunch wedding! Brunch is cheaper than dinner, FYI.

In my area evening weddings are most common & mine will be in the evening as well. Afternoon weddings are a great way to save money though!

I’ve never been to a noon wedding. Our ceremony will start at 3:30, cocktail hour/reception to start at 4 and end by 8pm (we have a lot of small kids coming.) And our wedding will be the earliest I’ve attended lol

The earliest I've ever been to a wedding was 3pm, and that was for the church ceremony which lasted about an hour, then cocktail hour at 4, and dinner was beginning around 5:15pm. Most of the weddings I've gone to the ceremony didnt even start until.5pm or later! We are having a 5pm ceremony and evening reception.

My fiance and I have had very differing opinions on this.
He was raised catholic and a lot of catholic weddings happen in the afternoon.
I thought his friends were INSANE for having 1pm weddings and 7 PM receptions.
I thought like all weddings happened at 4pm.
I refused to get married any earlier than 330, so I can sleep in.

I believe most of those we've attended were 3-5pm ceremonies. Later start times mean more time to get ready, get to the venue and correct an hiccups before the ceremony.

I’ve mostly attended evenings weddings lately, but growing up, I attended several afternoon weddings. Our ceremony will be at 3pm, cocktail hour will be from 3:30pm-4:30pm or 5pm, and dinner will be served at 5pm! I initially wanted the ceremony to start at 4pm, but our wedding will be in central time and all the guests from my hometown live in eastern time (2 1/2 hours away from the wedding). My mom wanted people to be able to drive home that night if they wanted to and not get home super late so I compromised.

My ceremony will start at 3 with a reception to follow ending around 8pm. Of the 5 weddings I've been to, none of them have started later than 3.
