Serving alcohol at reception

BrideToBe101, on June 10, 2017 at 11:09 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 17

So we are choosing not to have a bartender at wedding. We will be getting married in a barn so it will be very elegant and rustic. I was wondering would it be tacky to have kegs of beer for self serve? I also wanted to have his/her signature drinks. I wanted to have them mixed the day before and have big dispenser with infuser for ice so it doesn't water down. Would this be a good idea or be too tacky???

    I wouldn't recommend this.

Also, is your venue an actual venue? They probably require a bartender if alcohol is being served for legal purposes.

Most venues do not allow self serve alcohol. Also if you are using a venue and they do allow make sure you get day of insurance. Some bartending services will let you alcohol and cups seperately and you can hire a barteneder to just serve. This option vould save you a lot of money!

I say know your crowd. I wouldn't be concerned with the people who are coming to my wedding, but there are only 50. If you have 150/ 200 people and some are underage, or a little rowdy... You might end up with a mess on your hands. A bartender will, at the very least, be able to monitor consumption and watch those who might be under 21.

"Very elegant" and "self serve kegs" don't belong in the same sentence. You should have a bartender for liability reasons at the very least.

Hire a bartender and save yourself the liability. I'd rather pay for them than someone else's mistake of drinking and driving

The vendor tab here, and Thumbtack! And make sure they're legit, not someone's cousin who used to bartend while he was in college.

It's super easy. Get someone who is licensed. And I don't mean just a liquor license. A licensed bartender with insurance. Mine costed only like 250 and it was worth it. My advice to you is find one that knows the drinks you want. Mine had no idea how to make a mojito. It was a disaster.

Most venues won't allow a self serve bar. This brings up MANY legal issues such as underage drinking, drinking and driving (which, if anyone gets killed or injured, YOU will be held responsible for that without a bartender), there's no cutting anyone off... without a bartender you're asking for trouble.

Find a bartender. Your caterer will know some and be able to recommend someone for your wedding.

Oh girl we are doing kegs! Also, for the ladies I’m mixing a huge 5 gal bucket of “hurricane” the night before... painting it beige and putting a big bow on it.... and it’s going in the middle of our kegs.
Our wedding is also rustic and in a historic lodge/ barn!
