Serving Alcohol at a Restaurant Wedding

Gina, on November 16, 2020 at 11:20 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6

I am having my wedding at a private dining room at a restaurant venue. For people who have done this, what is the cheapest way to go about serving alcohol? The open bar packages at the venue come out to be way more alcohol than what we think our friends and family will actually drink, so we are going with a consumption bar and we can limit what is served however we want. I don't really want to make it a cash bar, so I'm looking for any advice on what limits to place on the drinks that are served and how long the bar is open so that we can keep the cost down without making our guests pay for their drinks. We are only having about 50 people but most of them are friends of ours who drink. Should we do a signature drink only, signature drink plus wine & beer, drinks only during dinner service, drinks when the dance floor is open, etc.? Any advice on what worked well for others would be helpful!

I would do either just beer and wine or beer and wine plus the signature drink.

I would also limit the bar to just wine and beer. I had my wedding at a restaurant also and in my culture what we do is bring our own alcohol and just place it on each table. That’s not really something everyone does but it’s something in my culture that’s very common. If it’s an option that you like where the people at your wedding don’t drink very much then it might be good also as a consideration

I would offer beer/wine/signature drink. Keep in mind that not everyone drinks beer or wine so they shouldn't be left out, and only you know your crowd. Also make sure nonalcoholic beverages are available.

I think beer, wine, and two signature drinks is the best option. That gives you something that pretty much everyone will enjoy.

If you really want to pay by consumption, just limit to beer & wine. Totally fine.

And during cocktail hour ask staff NOT to remove glasses with wine (people set their drinks down then staff cleans up, guests go get another glass. $$&dollarSmiley winking Also tell staff NOT to keep filling guests glasses FULL during dinner, 1/2-3/4 of glass and wait until they really run low. DO keep refilling water for guests to stay hydrated and perhaps slow down the alcohol drinking.
