Hi! I just wanted to show a picture of the service dog vest my FH and mother made for our dog for the wedding. I just love it so much!! ( I watched tv with my dad, I have no patience for DIY) but they worked so hard on it I just can't wait to show it off!!! We borrowed the idea from a photo we...

Rachel, can I ask what organization your FH got his service dog through? My dog is a former PTSD service dog from Puppies Behind Bars (he was a great service dog but not a good match for his veteran), so I love to know where veterans get their service dogs from just so I can broaden my knowledge of the organizations available to them!

This is so cute! I agree, I want to see a pic of your pup (even if it isn't in the vest yet).

ETA: was going to say it is illegal to ask to see service dog's id's or paperwork but you already covered it

@cheval Freedom service Dogs out of Colorado. It's a great organization, they adopt dogs from shelters and train them to be service dogs. They game a lot of time making sure a person gets the perfect dog.

Thanks for sharing the info, Rachel! I'll pass that along to PBB - they sometimes will connect with other organizations so that they can network with each other in case someone has a veteran with higher or more specialized needs Smiley smile

And yes, the process of matching veteran to dog is definitely intensive with almost any org - it can be intimidating and a big time commitment but I'm happy that your FH has a constant battle buddy now to help him! And thank you and him for his service - and yours, for supporting him!

@ Rachel. I got a letter from the doc explaining that so many dogs claiming to be" Service dogs" were in and out of their offices. It's obvious that a tea cup Pekinese isn't one. They were both asking for the correct credentials. Interesting scenario.

From my understanding there are service, therapy, and companion trained dogs now.

Thank your future husband for his service to our country . My future father in law is a retired Air Force mechanic.
