September brides- Ny!!

E.F., on May 6, 2020 at 12:58 PM Posted in New York Planning 2 21
My wedding is supposed to be September 18, 2020 in Westchester, NY. So far my venue is only moving may weddings. All of my vendors are saying don’t postpone yet. We were only planning to invite 100 people before all this happened. I think based on Cuomo’s briefings, Hudson valley has more than enough time to enter phase 3. Maybe we’ll have to wear masks, who knows. Anyone else in NY with a September wedding?

9/6 - other wise of NY (Buffalo). Very concerned about how things are going in Erie County. My venue won’t postpone until 3-4 weeks out. I don’t live in NY anymore, so this is even more stressful. I’m sure there will be limitations on people. Figure I can deal with 100 (guest list is around there anyway) but if 50 or less.... that’s a problem. My sister speculated yesterday maybe people can come but wear masks. I hate that thought. Of course, I understand safety concerns - just feeling selfishly so sad...

Hey girl, my wedding is 9/19 in Roslyn, Long Island of about 100 people as well. I’m stressing but I think it’s too early to tell. I think the bridal shower and bachelorette are in more jeopardy before September.
My venue won’t let me change anything as of right now either, and I’ve already paid too much to cancel and go elsewhere. I’ve spoken to them about social distancing measures they could possibly implement? They said they wouldn’t really space people out and that if it came to that we should just postpone. Masks are all up to the individual!! I will have to pay more moving to 2021 so you may want to explore your options. Hopefully this thing doesn’t drag out till next year.......

They didn’t really say, but I’m assuming it’s because we don’t have enough room. Ceremony seats could be every other? My ballroom for the reception wouldn’t be big enough to spread out, unless they put me in a larger ballroom but they would prob want more money for that.... and idk how you would social distance at a cocktail hour. Do you guys have any options or thoughts for social distancing at a wedding?

My venue is half outdoor half indoor so if the weather was good we could have it outside i suppose. theyre all furloughed so i cant even talk to anyone! im thinking of maybe having a cocktail reception instead of a sit down dinner what do u think?

That’s a good idea! Is there a tent you could set up if it’s not too nice out just in case? If it’s outdoors I think everyone would be comfortable. If you could have the cocktail hour outside, or your entire reception outside I think that could work!

It's probably too early to tell. I'm down by the city, so I don't know what upstate is like, but even the city is clearly past the peak.

Best advice I have is to start making a Plan B *just* in case, be ready to be flexible, and don't make any decisions until you *have* to... but absolutely keep open lines of communication with your vendors!

    Good luck!

I feel your pain. 9.20.20 in NYC. I’m holding out hope, but have (literally) 7 different back up plans because we don’t want to postpone and still want to be married that day, even if it’s a smaller crowd elsewhere

We are scheduled to get married 9/5/20 in Buffalo, NY however we are really trying to push our wedding to next year as we have 225 guests and we are really worried about the health of all our guests and if they limit us to half capacity how do you chose who can come and who can’t? Our venue refused to move us and will bring giving us only a 5 week notice if we guidelines move under phase 4. This is really upsetting to us. Such an unknown this year.

Hey There - My wedding was suppose to be in July and we moved till September 6th. Our original guest list was supposed to be 165 people but we decided to cut it down to only inviting around 90 people (figuring we will end up with about 75 show ups) I still feel unsure about it all! I dont want a situation where someone gets sick or people feel uncomfortable being there but at the same time I dont want to keep post poning because apparently this virus is coming back FULL FORCE in the Fall/Winter so it feels like next year will be up in the air as well!

We decided to cancel our wedding as we could not handled cutting our 250 guest list as we have to many close family and friends. Our venue would not move us until 6 weeks out and it is too stressful to plan and figure out everything in that short amount of time. Plus we have too many people that are in the high risk category to get COVID. I may have lost a beautiful venue but the safety of our guests is far more important. Plus the venue is not understanding at all. Would warn future wedding couples on the lack of empathy the owners provide.

I feel for you! + am so sorry about your venue not being accommodating! We put down a large Deposit for ours last year and they told us that we could NOT get our money back due to covid if we wanted to cancel and the money would be used to keep the grounds/maitience of the club.. completely ridiculous. Hope for all of us we are able to have a safe wedding that turns out amazing for us all.

I am sorry to hear Michelle that your venue is doing the same thing. I understand that our venues have to run a business. However I feel during this scary unknown time. They should be more sympathetic for us and our guests. And the amount of money we are providing for our big days. We want it to be everything we had hoped and not stressed over any of our guests contracting COVID at our weddings. We moved our date/venue to next year. And the venue we went to we ensured were sympathetic towards this situation. And they have moved many couples this year. Even for those who have asked in September. I wish you the best and hope all works out for you too.

We postponed our May wedding to early September. Our venue in NYC recently told us they will not be reopened by the new date. We've decided to do a very small ceremony (under 10 people) in NYC anyway in September. I really hope there isn't a second wave!! I want to at least be able to take off my mask for socially distanced photos.
