Sephora/MAC lashes versus extensions

Samantha, on January 17, 2017 at 2:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I am working on my make-up plan and trying to figure out if it would be better to go the extension route or getting a great quality strip at Sephora? Have any of you ladies had experience with one or both of these? I keep going back and forth because in reality I am really only doing them for the wedding to give some volume to my lashes and minimize the amount of mascara I have to put on them (I have a special talent for smudging or crying it off no matter how careful I am), but I want them to look as "natural" as possible.

Ok, you can really do either...

Lashes with glue are completely normal to do on a wedding day, if you want a more natural look, you can also ask your MUA to do individual lashes to fill in along your lash line. This is temporary and will wash off when you remove your makeup.

Extensions will last longer and are done individually. MUA's generally recommend that you avoid mascara and oil based products because they can deteriorate the adhesive. They last around 2 weeks with proper care.

If you plan to use them just for the wedding, I would recommend temporary lashes. If you want them to last a bit longer like say, through the honeymoon, go for the extensions.

You should talk this through with your MUA and do a trial run to make sure the adhesive (on either) wont cause a reaction.

I say extension! Only because I lovveeee them! I know with the extension they most likely won't fall out! I will probably cry a lot and would worry about the stripes falling.

I had extensions before just for the fun of it. As someone previously mentioned, you can't really put makeup on over it, let alone makeup remover. I wear eyeliner everyday so that was really hard. Plus they bothered me and I had a bad habit of picking at them. Since they're also costly to maintain, I wasn't a fan.

I'd just go with individual lashes for a more natural look.

I did strip lashes. My MUA recommended them over extensions because she's seen a lot of adverse reactions to extensions. If you go with extensions, make sure you try them out ASAP to see if you have any reaction to them!

Strips are easy- and they are very low risk.

I know people who have done extensions- they look nice- but you do run the risk of your actual lashes falling the fuck out if they aren't put on properly.

The nice thing is the strips are low commitment also- so if you don't normally care about them- then strip is the way to go- if you normally are fussing about your lashes- and you are always trying to spend money on mascra that does more for you- just get the extensions.

I love strip lashes- you can always do more with them- double up- add rhinestones- or feathers- whatever. I'm a big fan of strip lashes.

Thanks so much for all the feedback!!! I think that I am going to go the strip lash route, my MUA said that we will for sure to a trial run with them just so I can get the feel of what they will look/feel like. Do any of you have any brands that you highly recommend?

I totally agree with JJ - I had eyelash extensions before and they looked awesome at first, but they require maintenance (they clump when wet, so you actually have to comb them out with a makeup free mascara wand). Once they started to fall off, though, they totally ruined my regular lashes. My MUA recently suggested Lilly Lashes in the style "Miami" as a great pair of strip lashes. They're mink (which makes them lighter weight) and they're reusable. They may be more dramatic than you'd want, but Lilly Lashes has a lot of other styles to choose from too. On their website it says you get 15% off if you order today with the promo "dream15"!

I would definitely recommend against the extensions. They are too expensive for how short they last, also I feel like they look just as fake as glue on lashes. I would look at some high end lashes for like $20 for you big day. Lilly lashes or huda beauty are my faves best place to find those are online.

I had strips and they were great! My MUA (not amazing by any means...) did not actually let me put my lashes on during our trial. If you can, highly recommend it. My eyes felt pretty heavy, but I got used to them pretty quick. My MUA also said to avoid a lot of crying or the lashes can lift in the corners. Just some food for thought!
