Sephora or Ulta - Who has the better makeover?

It depends on the makeup artist more than the store. id probably go with Sephora though

Agree with Kay completely! I usually have better luck at Sephora since they only focus on "prestige" brands, they seem to be more focused and into makeup. Nothing wrong with drugstore brands, but I think there is a lot of other stuff going on at Ulta and for some employees it's just a job, not what they are passionate about. Good luck!

I had no clue Ulta even did makeovers. I agree with Kay, though. Sephora is a safer bet. You could also try MAC or another high end counter at a department store (Macy's, Dillards)

It really depends on the artist VS the store. Sephora is higher end, but you may have a crappy artist.

I think MAC's artists are actual licensed freelance MUAs though?

Thank you everyone! Lots of great suggestions. I think I'll give Sephora a try first, and then maybe give MAC a try a little later.

Sephora would be better. Go through Yelp or other reviews of a few locations and see what kind of experience other people have had. That should help you pick a safe bet.

You could find a MUA through thumbtack.com. I hired a lady who will be doing all my bridesmaids' makeup for $40 each. But I think if you get your makeup done at Sephora, you use the $50 toward purchasing the makeup products. So that's a plus!

I had my makeup done at Ulta for my epics. I loved it, but I can definitely agree that it all depends on the artist you get.

Try Mac

Mac or Sephora. I got my wedding makeup done at Bare Minerals, but I don't think that's something they usually do. I just stumbled up some really kind associates that day.

I have gotten my makeup done at both & I would hands down say Sephora. The Sephora staff know what they are doing & are up to date with everything. The Ulta staff do beautiful makeup on themselves, but don't know how to do makeup on other people. Every time I ask them to match me for foundation I buy the product, come home to try it on and it's not my shade - lesson learned. Plus I got my makeup done for my brothers wedding there, and honestly I could have done a better job on myself. It was OK - not really the best though. Just my experiences.

And Mac .... they are the first class in makeup.

I used to work at sephora and I would say your best bet is there. They are excellently trained and they will always work around what you want and your budget. I would call and set up an appointment!

Agree with PP, definitely depends on the artist, not the store. I've had my makeup done at Sephora & totally hated it. I've had my makeup done at ulta & loved it. What is the trial makeover for?
