Sent out my save the dates today

MLS, on September 18, 2020 at 10:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 15
I sent out my save the dates today...
I am wondering if I'll have relatives call me and say they are so happy for us.
I'm just not sure what people will say.
What response did you get when you sent out yours?

We had one person RSVP after getting the STD and a few people (maybe 2-3) texted us that they were looking forward to the wedding. I didn’t expect a huge response because STDs went out about 10 months after we started planning and most vips already knew what date we were planning for.

No one called us or did anything. Most of our family and friend knew we were getting married so it wasn’t a surprise but we didn’t get anything.

I didn't get anyone reaching out to us after receiving the Save The Date, most of our guests knew that we were planning our wedding and what date we chose.

8 people declined for 1 or both invited when we called with Save info, 2 couples called the next day when we emailed them a Save, to let us know they had unchangeable conflicts, would not possibly able to come, and should use the seats for someone else
By 10 days later we had 11x2
similar, no other responses except if we saw someone who mentioned it after our phone calls to most and emails to others. We only got 2 declines from over 100 invitations, 190 people, at regular time. So those who let us know really early on, 14 weeks out ( 5 month engagement) gave us close to actual numbers to work with, over 3 months out, which made life easier.

We had a handful of people message us with excited emojis/congratulations, but ... that's rare. Please don't be disappointed if people don't, particularly with all the uncertainty.

I sent mine out to our 160 guest list 6 months from the wedding, and I think we got around 5-6 happy texts about the STDs, and it was a light at the end of the tunnel for people to look forward to because Covid seemed to far away from then. Well, we then sent out CHANGE the Dates when we realized October didn’t look promising for our wedding and we received around the same response of excitement, mixed with sorrow that we had to change it, and relief for the guests.

I didn't really set myself up for an expectation either time, people are just happy to be invited whether they say something to you or not.

If you’re family was anything like ours, we barely received so much as a congratulations from most people. We’ve been together 7 years and over all those years everyone has asked ‘when are you getting married?’ And now that we are it’s not so important it seems. Oh well!
I hope your family sends cards to you guys congratulating you, and that everyone is happy and excited for your big day!

No one contacted us, they already knew about the engagement so there was no need. People told us how much they loved the save the dates when we gave it to them or when they seen us but no one went out of their way to contact us

No one reached out to us either. I don’t think that’s something people typically do. I did have people let me know they got our invite in the mail though. People that I talk to regularly like my mom and mil.
But, I ran out of stamps for my last STD and I knew I’d be seeing that relative within the week of sending them out. The first words out of their mouth were I didn’t get mine! Ok well I ran out of stamps and it’s right here, goodness. They’re not even someone I wanted to Invite but my dad made me add. 🙄

I’ve never responded to a Save the Date beyond telling people the photo was cute if it was a picture of them. Save the Dates don’t require a response, so you might not hear from many people about them.

After we sent out our save the dates, I recall we got a few texts from people saying they were excited, but that's pretty much it. Everyone knew about our engagement beforehand, so we didn't expect a response

Guests informed us that they received the STD and they told us how unique it was. But outside of that, everyone knew we were getting married. So when they received the STD, it wasn’t new information. We received our “congrats“ and “we’re so happy for you“ sentiments when we originally announced the engagement.

FH and I each got a few texts from close family and friends saying that they received the STD, loved the pics, and were excited for the wedding! Sending them out really made things feel “real!”
